The neck-rib ligament (collimus costarum, syn: lig. teres costae or costal ligament) is a strong elastic ligament that connects the third to sixth pairs of ribs between themselves and the sternum. The function of the ligament is to prevent compression of the blood vessels (the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which supplies blood to the vocal cords).
