Trental

Pentoxifylline, also known as Trental, is a drug that is used to treat various diseases related to the circulatory system. The active substance is pentoxifylline. The drug is available in several forms, including tablets, injections, and dietary supplements.

Pentoxifylline triacetate is an antianginal agent that also has a fibrolytic and vasodilating effect when microcirculation is impaired. The mechanism of action is associated with the inhibition of phosphodiesterase and the accumulation of cAMP in the cells of vascular smooth muscles and adherent red blood cells (the so-called active forms), which leads to a sharp increase in the supply of oxygen from the blood to the tissues, a decrease in the concentration of calcium in the cell and a decrease in intracellular crystalline amorphous cholesterol oxide, which prevents synthesis of phospholipids and release of low-density lipoproteins (LDL). These changes, in turn, increase the degree of deformability of erythrocytes and the rechargeable capacity of platelets. As a result of improved hemomicrocirculation, lipolytic acid oxysterides of blood leukocytes are inhibited, metabolism in the brain is normalized, and exercise tolerance is improved.

Indications for pentoxifylline are:

Postthrombotic syndrome; Cerebrovascular accidents associated with cerebral microcirculation disorders (ischemic and hypertensive stroke
