Tuberose

Tuberose, or polyanthes tuberose, from the agave family is a relative of narcissus. Mexico is considered to be the birthplace of this delicate plant. It has a tuberous root, long (up to 1 m) leaves and large white flowers.

In Europe, tuberose has been known since the end of the 16th century. Early in the morning, before sunrise, the blooming snow-white flowers exude an intoxicating floral aroma with a spicy note. Even then, in the Middle Ages, French perfumers had the idea to “catch” this unique “white” smell in a test tube. They invented all sorts of complex methods. Today, the essential oil is obtained by extracting tuberose with petroleum alcohol. In order to obtain 1 kg of absolute oil, 3.6 tons of fresh flowers are needed. This circumstance determines the extremely high price of tuberose oil.

In France, tuberose symbolized sensual love. It has been noted that its aroma is unpleasant to pregnant women. Louise de La Valliere, in order to hide from others that she was expecting a child from Louis XIV, decorated her room with bouquets of tuberose.

Today, tuberose essential oil is one of the components of top-class perfumes of the oriental, floral and fantasy directions. The aroma of tuberose combined with jasmine and narcissus-esonquil is clearly felt in Robert Liguet's Fracas perfume, in Karl Lagerfeld's Chloe among 78 components, as well as in Azzaro and Divina from Diana di Silva, in 5 Avenue" by Elizabeth Arden.

Currently, tuberose is grown in Italy, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, and France. Nevertheless, natural tuberose oil is quite rarely found on sale; most often it is falsified by introducing natural or synthetic additives, or even replaced with artificial ones.

Medicinal properties

1. Eliminates congestion in the pelvic organs.
2. Effective during menopause, with impotence, frigidity.
3. Relieves severe nervous tension and improves mood.
4. Rejuvenates, refreshes the skin, makes it soft and velvety.

Dosage

Oil burner: 1-2 k.

Massage: 2-3 k. per 10 ml of transport oil.

Baths: 3-4 k.

Enrichment of cosmetics: 1-3 k. per 10 g of base.

Contraindications. Individual intolerance to tuberose, pregnancy.
