Ten Plasma Cells

Unna plasma cells Name

"Unns Plasma cells or plasmacytes" comes from the name of the German scientist Rudolf Pettersson (Karl F. Petersen). In 1892, he discovered a group of lymphocytes, which he called “plasma cell lymphocytes.” These lymphocytes were considered an exception to the major cell types because they were characterized by the presence of pleomorphic nuclei and cytoplasm, variable chromosome numbers, and high rates of division. He called them “unns” (auntheuer) to emphasize the exceptional distribution of these cells in various human tissues (not only in lymphoid tissue). Currently, plasma cells, like all leukocytes, are classified as agranulocytes.
