Valsalva dysphagia

dysphagia-covering (diaphagia) - syn. dysphagia. Dysphagia is insufficiency of swallowing as a manifestation of diseases of the head and neck organs, esophagus and cardia in combination with the involvement of para- or extracranial parts of the central nervous system in the pathological process. D. may be caused by damage to the mucous membrane or disruption of innervation due to syphilis, tuberculosis, ulcerative colitis, after operations on the stomach and esophagus, paralysis of the vocal cords, diabetes mellitus, etc. Concomitant swallowing disorders, if present, must be taken into account when examining the patient.
