Vancomycin-Teva: an effective antibiotic for severe infections

Vancomycin-Teva is an antibiotic manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Enterprises Ltd in Hungary. This drug belongs to the group of antibiotics and is widely used to treat severe infections caused by pathogens sensitive to vancomycin.

The main active ingredient of Vancomycin-Teva is vancomycin, which belongs to the group of glycopeptide antibiotics. It has a bactericidal effect and prevents the reproduction and growth of bacteria.

Vancomycin-Teva is available in the form of a lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution in two dosages: 500 mg and 1000 mg.

Indications for the use of Vancomycin-Teva include severe infectious and inflammatory diseases such as sepsis, endocarditis, pneumonia, lung abscess, osteomyelitis, infections of the skin and skin structures, pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridium difficile, enterocolitis, meningitis.

However, before you start using Vancomycin-Teva, it is necessary to take into account contraindications and restrictions on the use of the drug. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity, acoustic neuritis, pregnancy in the first trimester. You should also use the drug with caution in case of severe kidney damage, hearing impairment, pregnancy in the second and third trimesters, as well as during breastfeeding.

When using Vancomycin-Teva, side effects may occur, such as nausea, vomiting, bitter taste in the mouth, chills, itchy skin, urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. With rapid administration of the drug, anaphylactic reactions, hypotension, dizziness, tinnitus and other unpleasant sensations may occur.

The interaction of Vancomycin-Teva with other drugs should also be taken into account. When combined with aminoglycosides, amphotericin B, bacitracin, loop diuretics, cisplatin, cyclosporine, polymyxins, the risk of hearing loss and kidney damage increases. Concomitant use with general anesthetics can lead to the development of erythema, histamine-like flushes and anaphylactic shock.

In case of an overdose of Vancomycin-Teva, a toxic effect on the kidneys and hearing may occur, so it is important to follow the dosage indicated in the instructions for use of the drug and monitor the patient’s condition during treatment.

Despite some limitations and possible side effects, Vancomycin-Teva is an effective antibiotic for treating severe infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to the drug. However, before using it, you must consult your doctor and strictly follow the recommendations for dosage and duration of treatment.
