Varus

Varus - this term is applied to any deformity that causes an inward displacement (relative to the midline) of the hand or foot.

Varus deformity can occur as a result of congenital malformations, injury, or disease. Most often, varus deformity is observed in the lower extremities and is manifested by an inward curvature of the foot.

The causes of varus deformity of the feet can be:

  1. Congenital clubfoot
  2. Consequences of injuries and fractures
  3. Arthritis and arthrosis of the foot joints
  4. Neurological diseases
  5. Muscle imbalance

Another variant of varus deformity is hallux varus. It is characterized by a displacement of the big toe towards the other toes.

Diagnosis of varus deformities is based on clinical examination and radiography. Treatment depends on the cause of the deformity and may include conservative and surgical methods. Timely correction of varus deformities helps prevent the progression of pathology and disability of patients.
