Vaselinoderma

Vaseline derma is a skin condition in which the skin becomes dry, flaky and rough, caused by overuse of petroleum jelly or other skin emollients such as lanolin. This can cause cracks and wounds in the skin, especially on the arms and legs.

The main cause of Vaseline dermatitis is the long-term use of Vaseline to treat irritated, dry or cracked skin. Over time, petroleum jelly and other emollients can accumulate in the superficial layers of the skin and lead to dehydration of the skin. Additionally, long-term use of emollients can cause crusting of the skin, which reduces its elasticity and increases the risk of damage. Another possible cause of vaseline dermatitis may be hypersensitivity to emollient components, which can cause an allergic reaction. If you experience symptoms of skin irritation after using emollient creams and ointments, it is recommended to temporarily stop using them.
