Weinberg Methods

Weinberg, Otto W., corresponding member. Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, prof., doctor of medicine. One of the founders of Soviet clinical and experimental orthopedics and traumatology. Born July 24 (August 5), 1892 in Basel (Switzerland), where his father practiced surgery. Since 1915, B. A. has been an assistant professor at Kazan University. In 1921 he moved to Moscow, where he organized an orthopedic and traumatological service at the University Clinic and worked as vice-rector for the medical department of the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute. From 1935 to 1942, V. headed the Orthopedic and Traumatological Institute of the Saratov Medical Institute, which was later reorganized into the 2nd Moscow Regional Institute of Traumatology and Reconstructive Surgery. The main works are mainly related to the development of surgical methods for the treatment of diseases and injuries of the joints, the use of bone plates in the treatment of fractures of long bones, as well as the development of rational methods for the rehabilitation of patients. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences (since 1957; Corresponding Member of the USSR Medical Academy since 1972). Main works: “Acute separation of pelvic trauma” (1934); “Handbook of joint diseases in children” (jointly with A. M. Gening, 1966); “Diagnostics and surgical treatment of the pelvic bones” (1969), “Displaced hip fractures” (2 volume, 1st edition, 1984). Editor-in-chief of the journal “Orthopedics and Traumatology”, member of the editorial boards of the journals “Clinical Medicine” and “Traumatology”. The Museum of Scientific Medicine in Leningrad is dedicated to the name of K.I. Awarded two orders and 3 medals.
