The great cerebral vein (lat. v. cerebri magna) is a large blood vessel of the human brain. Refers to the dura mater system.
It originates at the confluence of the anterior and middle cerebral veins. It runs along the groove between the cerebral hemispheres. It flows into the direct sinus of the dura mater.
The cerebral vein drains blood from the veins of the cerebral hemispheres into the jugular vein, and then into the superior vena cava.
Diseases of this vessel can lead to disruption of the venous circulation of the brain and the development of edema, heart attacks and other complications.
