**The ovarian vein** is a large anatomical structure that represents one of the most important blood vessels for the female body.
It begins in the abdomen and runs through the lumbar region to join the inferior vena cava, which is located approximately at the level of the first lumbar vertebra. After connecting with the inferior vena cava, the ovarian vein carries blood to the kidneys, adrenal glands and some other organs within the peritoneum.
