Vero-Vinpocetine: description, use and side effects

Vero-Vinpocetine is a drug that is used to improve cerebral circulation. It contains the active substance vinpocetine, which helps improve blood flow to the brain and eliminate related disorders such as memory impairment, dizziness, movement disorders and headaches.

The drug is produced by Veropharm and the Belgorod branch in Russia and has the international name Vinpocetine. It is also sold under various synonyms such as Bravinton, Vinpoton, Cavinton, Telektol, and others.

Vero-Vinpocetine is available in two dosage forms: 0.005 g tablets and 5 mg tablets. The drug is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic disorders of cerebral circulation, such as stroke, brain injury, atherosclerotic changes in cerebral vessels. It can also be used to treat other diseases, such as arterial and venous thrombosis of the vessels of the eye, age-related, vascular or toxic (drug-induced) hearing disorders, vegetative manifestations of menopausal syndrome.

Despite numerous indications for use, the drug has a number of contraindications. It is not recommended to take it in case of severe heart rhythm disturbances, angina pectoris of a high functional class, pregnancy and lactation.

Like all medicines, Vero-Vinpocetine may cause side effects. These may include hypotension, tachycardia, extrasystole and an increase in the duration of electrical ventricular systole. With parenteral administration, that is, when the drug is administered intravenously, dizziness, a feeling of heat, redness of the face and thrombophlebitis at the injection site may be observed.

The drug may also interact with other drugs, increasing the risk of hemorrhagic complications during heparin therapy.

In case of an overdose of Vero-Vinpocetine, gastric lavage, intake of activated charcoal and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

Some special instructions should also be kept in mind when using this drug. For example, patients with cardiac pathology should not be given intravenous vinpocetine due to the risk of developing arrhythmia, including ventricular fibrillation. In addition, the drug should be used with caution in patients with hypotension, bradycardia, hypertension, liver or kidney failure.
