Vincristine

Vincristine is a cytotoxic drug similar in action and side effects to vinblastine. It belongs to the group of vinca alkaloids and is used to treat various forms of cancer.

The mechanism of action of vincristine is to disrupt the process of cancer cell division by inhibiting the assembly of spindle microtubules in mitosis. This leads to cell cycle arrest in metaphase and subsequent death of cancer cells.

Vincristine is administered intravenously, usually in combination with other anticancer drugs. It is effective in the treatment of leukemia, lymphoma, breast cancer, lung cancer and other solid tumors.

The main side effects of vincristine are:

  1. Neurotoxicity (peripheral neuropathy)
  2. Myelosuppression (decreased levels of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets)
  3. Nausea, vomiting
  4. Constipation

Vincristine is available as a lyophilisate for the preparation of a solution for intravenous administration. Its trade name is Oncovin.

Vincristine is a cytotoxic drug used to treat various types of cancer. It was developed in the 1960s and has since become one of the most effective drugs for treating tumors.

Vincristine acts on cancer cells, blocking their division and causing their death. This drug may also be used to treat certain types of leukemia and lymphoma.

However, like any other drug, vincristine has its side effects. Some of them can be quite serious, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue and other symptoms.

However, vincristine remains one of the most effective drugs for fighting cancer and other malignant diseases. Its use can help prolong the lives of patients and improve their quality of life.
