Visual Fixation Eccentric

Eccentric visual fixation is an incorrect visual fixation in which a person’s gaze is not focused exactly on the object, but slightly away from it.

This type of fixation may be caused by problems with the extraocular muscles or problems with binocular vision. Eccentric fixation distorts visual perception and makes it difficult to obtain a clear image.

Often such fixation is observed with strabismus, amblyopia, nystagmus and other diseases of the visual organs. To correct eccentric fixation, special exercises, pleoptics are used, and surgical treatment may also be required. Timely correction of incorrect fixation is important for the normal development of visual functions and preventing a decrease in visual acuity.
