Human papillomavirus type 68 is a dangerous strain of HPV, which, when entering the human body, can remain dormant for a long time, or can cause the formation of dangerous tumors, including oncology. In most cases, the patients of the oncologist are women; malignant formations are detected in 2 out of 3 patients who consult the doctor, although there are also men among the patients. Sad statistics necessitate a more thorough study of the specifics of HPV 68 strain, understanding of possible risks and the need for timely diagnosis and treatment of the virus.

General information about HPV type 68

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a large family of papillomaviruses, which already includes more than 600 different genotypes. The specificity of HPV is such that the pathogen cannot reproduce on its own, but when it enters a living organism, it actively introduces its DNA into tissue cells, changing their division algorithm.

Changes depending on the nature of the virus can only be of a purely unaesthetic nature, or can have an extremely dangerous effect on the patient’s health. Human papillomavirus type 68 belongs to the category of dangerous genotypes, since its activation in the patient’s body can lead to the development of cancer.

Genotype 68 is identified as a separate type due to a number of features: the virus differs in its location on the vaginal mucosa in women, as well as in its specific response to therapy.

Important! The zone of manifestation of genotype 68 is deep, so only an experienced gynecologist can notice any deviations during a thorough examination.

Human papillomavirus type 68 has incredible adaptive characteristics to treatment. Practice shows that more than 70% of women with this strain subsequently suffer from cancer - cancer of the cervix, vagina, and anus.

In men, HPV 68 manifests itself much less frequently, although it is the stronger sex that in most cases acts as a carrier of the pathogen. This situation is associated with the structural features of the reproductive organs. However, if the virus begins to manifest itself, the patient is also at risk of developing cancer.

How does HPV 68 strain become infected?

HPV 68 enters the body of a healthy person after close contact with an infected carrier. Infection can occur through damage to the skin or mucous membranes. This is why human papillomavirus type 68 in women is often detected after the onset of sexual activity.

More often, microorganisms enter the body through sexual intercourse - during vaginal, anal or oral intercourse. The latter option, according to doctors, is extremely rare, but still possible.

Much less often, HPV 68 is infected through household methods. To become infected, it is enough to use someone else’s towel or personal hygiene products. There are also cases when a child becomes infected from the mother while passing through the birth canal. If the likelihood of infection is high, the mother is given a caesarean section.

Note! Disorderly sex life significantly increases the likelihood of infection with human papillomavirus type 68, even if partners use condoms. The size of the pathogen is smaller than the micropores of latex, and therefore the likelihood of infection is high for both women and men.

How does papillomavirus type 68 manifest?

Genotype 68, entering the human body, can remain dormant for a long time, but after activation it inevitably goes through four stages of development:

  1. Activation stage after suspended animation. The patient does not feel any discomfort, visual symptoms also do not appear; human papillomavirus type 68 can only be detected by testing for the presence of this strain in the blood.
  2. The DNA of the virus disrupts normal cell division and growths form on the skin. External signs indicate the presence of papillomavirus in the body, but the genotype of the infection is determined only with the help of specialized examinations.
  3. Papillomavirus type 68 in women manifests itself as dysplasia - a systemic disorder of cell structure. The condition is precancerous.
  4. The virus mutates, and the patient is diagnosed with carcinoma, a cancerous condition that requires long-term treatment.

At the third and fourth stages of pathology development, the clinical picture, in addition to the formed growths, is supplemented by the following symptoms:

  1. The process of defecation is complicated (the patient suffers from constipation or, conversely, diarrhea);
  2. Increased flatulence;
  3. Discharge from the genitals mixed with blood;
  4. Pain during intercourse.

In addition to the listed symptoms, with human papillomavirus type 68, there is also a sharp decrease in body weight, rapid fatigue of the patient, and constant weakness.

Important! All the symptoms together, or even several of them, may indicate cancerous degeneration of the formations; you cannot postpone a visit to the doctor!

Features of diagnosing HPV genotype 68

A diagnosis of HPV 68 can be made based on various tests and analyses. An initial examination and referral for tests is given by a gynecologist, and if cancer is suspected, a consultation with an oncologist is mandatory.

To confirm or refute the presence of human papillomavirus type 68, the following tests are prescribed:

  1. Polymerase chain reaction - to determine live viruses in the carrier body, the procedure helps determine the HPV genotype;
  2. Cytology smear — to determine the general condition of a person and the presence of cancerous tissue in the early stages of disease development;
  3. Biopsy — to determine the nature of neoplasms;
  4. Digest test — for a more detailed study of the virus, its degree of concentration in the body and level of development.

The patient will also have to be simultaneously examined for the presence of concomitant sexually transmitted diseases, as well as undergo a general blood and urine test. Based on laboratory data, as well as the patient’s developed symptoms, the stage of the disease is determined. Only a doctor can correctly interpret test results and prescribe the required treatment.

Important! Both sexual partners should be tested and treated for human papillomavirus type 68 to eliminate the possibility of re-infection.

Methods of treating HPV type 68

When diagnosing human papillomavirus type 68 in women and men, there is a high risk of developing cancer pathologies. It will not be possible to completely remove viral agents from the body, but timely therapy will slow down the development of cancer formations, or even prevent their appearance. Therapy in this case implies an integrated approach: with the help of medications, the development of the virus is blocked, the body’s protective functions are improved, and operations allow you to get rid of its external manifestations (growths).

Drug therapy for papillomavirus 68 strain

When diagnosing papillomavirus type 68, in most cases the following is prescribed:

  1. Allokin-alpha in the form of a solution for injection. The active substance of the drug actively fights the virus. However, the product is by no means budget-friendly. A bottle of medicine can cost from 5,000 Russian rubles or 2,000 Ukrainian hryvnia. Analogues of the drug can also be used - Amiksin, Lavomax and others.
  2. Groprinosin. It also has an antiviral effect, but is recommended in complex therapy. The drug is characterized by immunomodulatory properties. The price in Ukrainian pharmacies varies from 200 to 300 hryvnia, and in Russia - from 200 to 800 rubles. Analogues of the drug are Groprim, Isoprinosine and other immunostimulants.
  3. Viferon-Feron. An ointment or suspension for local action on affected areas, has an antiviral effect. The average price is 130 hryvnia or 300 rubles.

The patient will also have to switch to a balanced diet, give up promiscuity, drinking alcohol, and smoking. You need to take vitamins and minerals daily. An integrated approach to the treatment of papillomavirus type 68 makes it possible to achieve significant progress - blocking the development of HPV and the formation of new growths.

Methods for removing type 68 papillomas

Surgical removal of papillomas is carried out only as part of combination therapy, taking into account the medications taken by the patient. Modern methods of destruction of type 68 papillomas make it possible to quickly remove growths even on the genitals. The removal method is selected based on the patient’s general health, doctor’s recommendations, and capabilities.

The most popular destruction methods are:

  1. Laser. Using the latest technologies, the growth is removed, leaving virtually no scars and without causing bleeding. The average cost of the procedure: 600 hryvnia in Ukraine, up to 2000 rubles in Russia.
  2. Cryoremoval using liquid nitrogen. The procedure will require rehabilitation measures in the future, and is generally contraindicated in women with dysplasia. The price of cryodestruction of papillomas with type 68 virus can reach 500 hryvnia or 1,500 rubles.
  3. Cauterization with electric current. The method is quite painful, and in the case of HPV 68 in women it can lead to bleeding; attending physicians, as a rule, recommend more modern methods. The price of the procedure is from 300 hryvnia in Ukraine and from 700 rubles in Russia.
  4. Radio wave excision. It is based on the action of high-frequency waves that destroy tumors. The method is considered the most gentle, as it allows one to achieve good results, but does not cause much discomfort to the patient. The cost of the operation is from 500 hryvnia in Ukraine and from 700 rubles in Russia.

Traditional surgical excision for papillomavirus type 68 is rarely used today, since the patient will need a long rehabilitation period, and postoperative scars cause serious discomfort. However, a person is forced to endure all these inconveniences with large volumes of tumors. The cost of surgery is calculated on an individual basis.

Prevention of HPV type 68

Considering the high oncogenic factor of HPV strain 68, it is necessary to take all measures to prevent infection of men and women. For this purpose, educational conversations and lectures are held with young people.

Individuals who have already entered the stage of active sexual activity are strongly recommended to use contraceptive methods, which, although they do not guarantee protection, still reduce the risk of infection.

Women and men should undergo regular checkups with a gynecologist and urologist, respectively. And if papillomavirus type 68 is detected, treatment should be started immediately.

It is also extremely important to support the immune system to prevent the development of HPV 68. After all, it is activated only when the body is weakened. To do this, it is recommended to lead a healthy lifestyle: eat right, give up bad habits, and include moderate physical activity in your daily plan. As prescribed by your doctor, take hormonal medications to support your immune system.
