Xavin: properties, uses and side effects

Xavin is a pharmacological drug belonging to the group of antispasmodics, purine derivatives. It is widely used for the treatment of various diseases associated with circulatory disorders, including cerebrovascular insufficiency, cerebral atherosclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, atherosclerosis obliterans of the lower extremities, Raynaud's disease, Buerger's disease, obliterating endarteritis, acute arterial thrombosis, diabetic angiopathy, retinopathy, acute thrombophlebitis, postthrombophlebitis syndrome, trophic ulcers of the lower extremities, bedsores, migraine, Meniere's syndrome, dermatoses and atherosclerosis of the coronary vessels.

Xavin is produced in Hungary by the Hinoin company and has the international name xanthinol nicotinate. In addition, the drug can be sold under such synonyms as Complamin, Xanidil, Teonicol. Xavin is available in two dosage forms: injection solution and tablets.

The active ingredient in Xavin is xanthinol nicotinate. This compound improves blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and increasing their elasticity. Xavin also improves tissue metabolism and reduces thrombus formation.

Xavin has several contraindications, including hypersensitivity to the active substance, severe congestive heart failure, acute bleeding, acute myocardial infarction, gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute stage. You should also be careful when prescribing Xavin to patients with arterial hypotension and during pregnancy (especially in the 1st trimester).

Taking Xavin may cause some side effects, including arterial hypotension, transient sensation of warmth, redness of the skin, weakness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia and gastralgia. With long-term use of high doses, a decrease in glucose tolerance, an increase in the activity of liver transaminases and alkaline phosphatase, as well as hyperuricemia may be observed.

Xavin may interact with some other drugs, enhancing their hypotensive effect. You should also be careful when using Xavin simultaneously with anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, heparin, ACE inhibitors, digitoxin, beta-blockers, antidepressants. Before starting to take Xavin, you should consult your doctor and inform about all medications you are taking.

In general, Xavin is an effective and safe drug when prescribed correctly and the dosage is followed. However, like any other drug, it has its contraindications and side effects, so you should consult your doctor before using it.
