Gall Bladder Fossa

The gallbladder fossa is an anatomical formation that is located in the right hypochondrium of the human abdominal cavity. It is part of the liver, representing a depression on its surface. The very concept of “gallbladder fossa” is of Latin origin and means “hole for the gallbladder.”

The hole is located on the back wall of the abdomen, at a height of 15.0-20.0 cm from the level of the navel. The fossa has the shape of an ellipse and is 4-6 cm long and up to 3-4 cm wide. The volume of the fossa can vary depending on the filling of the gallbladder. In this case, not only the size, but also the shape of the hole may change.
