Essence.
This is a gum similar to sandarac. Its fracture is yellowish, whitish and transparent; sometimes it is reddish. Amber attracts straws and dry blades of grass and is therefore called kakhruba in Persian, that is, “stealing straws.” The power of amber combines warm wateriness and rarefied earthiness. It is the gum of a tree called sedge, consisting of a rarefied earthy and warm and watery substance.
Nature.
A little hot, dry to the third degree.
Actions and properties.
It binds, especially blood, no matter where it flows. The power of amber is similar to the power of the flowers of its tree, that is, the flowers of sedge, but it is colder.
Tumors and acne.
Some claim that amber is hung on hot tumors and that this helps.
Organs of the head.
Amber stops nosebleeds and the leakage of excess from the head into the lungs.
Respiratory and chest organs.
Amber is very useful for heart failure if you drink half a bowl of it in cold water, and is very helpful for hemoptysis.
Nutritional organs.
Amber stops vomiting and prevents bad matter from entering the stomach. Mixed with mastic, it strengthens the stomach.
Eruption organs.
Amber stops bleeding from the uterus and anus, stops the disorder and is said to help with bloody diarrhea.
