Skincare (care) cosmetics are designed to maintain the beauty and youth of the skin, as well as to solve various cosmetic problems. The skin on the face is highly susceptible to environmental influences. You need to take care of it: cleanse, moisturize and nourish.

Skincare cosmetics also allow you to correct some undesirable natural features of the skin.

Definition

Skincare cosmetics are included in the daily facial care program and are also used for procedures in the salon. In each specific case, it is selected individually, based on the natural skin type and its condition. Cosmetics may differ in the following ways:

person's age (for teenagers, young and mature skin, as well as anti-aging products);
appointment;
frequency of use (daily, therapeutic and prophylactic and professional).

When choosing a specific cosmetic product, it is recommended to take all these factors into account.

If you have problem skin, you should entrust the selection of skincare products to a cosmetologist. This is especially true for medicinal products. It is not recommended to “prescribe” them to yourself.

Types of funds

A large selection of cosmetic preparations suggests the need to classify them. This will help you purchase the types of cosmetics that a particular person really needs. Even the owner of “ideal skin” cannot do without daily facial care. Depending on your natural characteristics, it is important to choose cosmetics that suit your specific skin type. Products are available for the following skin types:

normal;
fat;
dry;
combined;
problematic;
sensitive.

This is one of the basic selection criteria.

Skin type can change with age, as can its condition. It is recommended to select basic care products from the appropriate line.

By functional purpose

Depending on the “work” that cosmetic preparations perform, different types of cosmetic preparations are distinguished:

cleansing cosmetics. Products are intended for washing and removing dirt, as well as residues of decorative cosmetics.

moisturizing cosmetics. Such products restore the protective barrier, reduce the permeability of various layers of the epidermis to fluid from the lower parts of the skin;
nourishing cosmetics. Cosmetics include nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, plant extracts, and fatty acids. Nourishing cream is used to retain the water phase of the stratum corneum of the skin.
anti-aging cosmetics is a skin care cosmetics that contains collagen, coenzymes, antioxidants, substances that promote the production of elastin and accelerate the process of cell renewal. The use of anti-aging products helps maintain skin elasticity, reduces existing wrinkles, and removes age spots.

The classification also includes:

whitening cosmetics. This type of cosmetics is used to combat age spots. Whitening cosmetic preparations include substances that penetrate the various layers of the epidermis and discolor the accumulated;
tightening cosmetics are intended to “help” the skin, in which the regenerative properties are slowed down, the production of collagen, lipids, and elastins is reduced. Tightening cosmetics should fill cells and intercellular space with moisture and stimulate regenerative processes;
restorative cosmetics Designed to enhance the protective functions of the skin and maintain normal natural microbiological balance. Cosmetics help remove dead cells, eliminate peeling or irritation of the skin, and regulate the functioning of the sebaceous glands;
anti-peeling remedies moisturize and nourish the skin. The mechanism of action of cosmetic preparations of this type also involves exfoliation of dead cells, ensuring the integrity and elasticity of the skin.

Depending on the cost, four groups of cosmetics can be distinguished:

mass market cosmetics. It is most accessible to the average consumer. The ingredients in cosmetic preparations are often petrochemical products. This group includes cosmetic products from such companies as Nivea, Garnier, Avon, L’Oreal, Maybelline, Dove;
m />pharmacy cosmetics in addition to care, it can have some therapeutic effects. These are products in the mid-price segment, somewhat more expensive than mass-market cosmetics, but more affordable than luxury products. Pharmacy cosmetics include products from Avene, Vichy Laboratories, Lierac, RoC, La Roche-Posay.
premium cosmetics (luxury cosmetics). These are the most expensive cosmetics. This group includes products from Christian Dior or Estee Lauder;

Depending on the composition, cosmetics can be divided into the following types:

natural cosmetic. These are cosmetics that should be based on natural and not artificially synthesized products. Natural cosmetics include phytocosmetics (created on the basis of plant components), preparations that contain products of animal origin, and placental cosmetics;
organic cosmetics. Products that belong to this type of skincare cosmetics are created exclusively using plant ingredients grown without the use of chemicals;
mineral cosmetics. This category of cosmetics is a 100% natural product and contains crushed minerals.

It is necessary to distinguish between mineral cosmetics and products containing minerals.

By type of application

There are the following types of facial care cosmetics:

gel - This is a daily cleanser that prevents disturbances in the water-oil balance of the skin;
gommage – a peeling product with a “gentle”, gentle effect. Recommended for thin, sensitive skin;
creams are used when it is necessary to moisturize, nourish, protect and rejuvenate facial skin.
lotion or toner is necessary to cleanse the skin and remove makeup residue. The product disinfects the skin, relieves inflammation;
mask has an effect on the skin that is more intense than cream, nourishing, moisturizing, smoothing the skin. The mask is not a daily care product;
milk – emulsion that cleanses, soothes and nourishes the skin;
foam – this is a gentle product for daily washing, containing soothing and nourishing ingredients for the skin;
scrub is a cleanser that contains abrasive particles. The scrub is used to smooth and deep cleanse the facial skin;
serum is a concentrated cosmetic product with a light texture. Serums are used to strengthen the protective functions of the skin;
lip balm – retains moisture in the epidermis and saturates it with vitamins;

The differences between cosmetic products are determined by their area of application. Cosmetics may differ in the following ways:

daily care products at home;
therapeutic and preventive care cosmetics;
professional skin care cosmetics. Cosmetic preparations belonging to the group of professional cosmetics contain a large number of active substances and are often administered using special methods (using ultrasound or injections).

There are separate cosmetic lines for men's and women's cosmetics.

The difference in this case is not only in the flavorings used. The structure of women's and men's skin is slightly different. For example, men's skin is 25% thicker than women's. Accordingly, cosmetic products are developed taking these features into account.
