New products replace one another at great speed, and cosmetics manufacturers are releasing more and more new products and improved formulas. In this abundance of beauty products, it is not easy to figure out what is really needed and what is suitable for pampering, and that’s all. One of the most controversial skincare products is lip scrub.

Women are divided into three camps. Some say that this is a waste of money and an absolutely unnecessary thing that has no place on the bathroom shelf. Others agree that they can do without a separate scrub, but they use it: simply because it’s faster and more convenient. And still others are inclined to believe that it is quite logical to use special scrubs for the delicate skin of the lips. Where is the truth? Let's figure it out.

A separate lip scrub can actually make sense, because the way you use face scrubs often has this note: do not use on the lips or eye area. This means that the product's regular formula is not gentle enough for these areas and may result in damage rather than renewal. But you will definitely agree that lips are prone to dryness and flaking even more than facial skin, especially in autumn and winter.

Alternative to lip scrubs

The purpose of the scrub is to remove dead skin cells with minimal loss. The scrub should do this intensively enough to accomplish its task, and at the same time delicately so as not to injure the skin. For this purpose, you can use not only crushed seeds or other scrubbing components, but also improvised means.

  1. Toothbrush. It has long been known that a toothbrush is successfully used on the lips. Some even add paste, arguing that it makes their lips plumper and smoother. But let's focus on the toothbrush: with its help you can really exfoliate the skin of your lips, the main thing is to do it very carefully and preferably with a brush with soft bristles.
  2. Terry towel. A regular towel that you use to wipe your face after washing can also replace a lip scrub. To do this, steam the skin of your lips with hot, but not too hot, water and simply rub your lips with a towel, working over their entire surface. After this, they will become smoother and brighter, and flaking will be eliminated.

If you are a fan of everything natural, then you can easily make your own lip scrub. Keep in mind that it won't last long, and it's important to make it lip-friendly.

How to make lip scrub at home

Some of the most popular lip scrubs are those with honey and sugar. Choose one of the options and enjoy the effect!

  1. Mix 1 tsp. sugar with a little water. Use a pipette, syringe, or small coffee spoon to carefully add water. Achieve a thick consistency and boldly apply it to your lips. If you add a little cinnamon, you get a more pleasant aroma and better blood circulation in the lips.
  2. Mix 1 tsp. honey and 0.5 tsp. Sahara. You can add just a little more vegetable oil. Mix all ingredients and use to scrub lips. By adding a little citrus juice to the mixture, you can achieve a peeling effect. But be careful not to use acids on damaged lips.

This is how you should use your homemade lip scrub. Steam your lips with hot water, blot them with a towel or napkin to make them dry, and apply the scrub. Massage your lips with gentle movements for about a minute. Then rinse off the scrub with water at a comfortable temperature and do not forget to apply hygienic lipstick or balm afterwards.

Examples of Korean lip scrubs

Korean skincare cosmetics have long established themselves as effective and pleasant to use. You can often find lip scrubs in the line of various Korean brands. Unlike exfoliating your lips with toothbrushes and towels, they intensively nourish your lips with the ingredients they contain. Store-bought lip scrubs are an excellent solution for those who do not like to prepare mixtures for masks, peels and scrubs on their own.

Korean lip scrubs include Kissful Lip Care Lip Scrub from Etude House and VVVic Lip Scrub from Rire. Both of them do a great job, but in slightly different ways.

The first scrub from Etude House allows you to achieve noticeable smoothing and renewal of the lips after the first use. It may well become your lifesaver in the fall and winter, when you use it to eliminate peeling lips. The second scrub from Rire has a slightly different effect. Yes, it really helps make your lips smoother and softer after the first use, but it reveals itself much better with regular use: then you will really notice and appreciate the effect.
