Retinoic ointment - treats acne and tightens facial skin. The effectiveness of its use against wrinkles and skin inflammation is confirmed by reviews of cosmetologists and dermatologists. It launches rejuvenation processes and stops the development of inflammation. What makes the ointment effective? And where else can this product be used?
Composition of retinoic ointment: vitamin and vaseline base
Retinoic ointment contains one of the natural forms of vitamin A - retinoic acid or isotretinoin. This acid effectively stops skin aging, fading and the appearance of wrinkles. It also reduces sebum production and dries out inflamed areas.
In addition to the main substance, the composition of the ointment contains vaseline oil, emulsion wax, glycerin, alcohol. They create a basis in which the active ingredient dissolves. The ointment base ensures long-term absorption of the composition through the skin, its prolonged therapeutic effect. The ointment also nourishes dry skin and helps retain moisture.
The effect of the ointment depends on the amount of active substance in its composition (in pharmacist terminology, the percentage of retinoic ointment). Two forms of the drug are available - with a concentration of 0.05% And 0,1%. Instructions for use of retinoic ointment recommend using the composition 0,05% to prevent aging, and 0,1% — for the treatment of small and medium-sized skin folds and wrinkles.
Retinoic ointment and gel
Ointment preparations contain a large amount of fatty components. The cream contains less fat base and more water and alcohol. Gels have a purely water base without fat.
Given the composition of different forms of the same substance, patients with dry skin it is recommended to use ointments. For oily skin, ointment forms are harmful. They clog the sebaceous ducts and impede the outflow of skin lubricant. People with oily skin are prescribed gels and creams.
In addition, the choice of ointment or gel is determined by the components they contain. Thus, isotretinoin (as part of retinoic ointment) is suitable for dry skin. And a substance similar to it from a number of provitamins of group A - tretinoin, - suitable for oily skin. These components are representatives of the same group of synthetic vitamins, but they manifest themselves on the skin in different ways.
Note: with age, a person loses moisture. At the same time, his skin becomes drier. Therefore, the ointment form of the drug was chosen as a remedy for wrinkles. In which fat nourishes aging skin, and retinoic acid prevents the formation of wrinkles.
What is Retinoic ointment used for?
The instructions for retinoic ointment regulate it as a good cosmetic product for the treatment of problem skin. It is applied to the face for wrinkles and acne, stretch marks, blemishes and inflammation. How do the components of the ointment work on cosmetic problems and inflammation?
Retinoic ointment for wrinkles
The instructions position retinoic ointment as an anti-wrinkle product. Isopretinoin enhances the synthesis of subcutaneous collagen and hyaluronic acid. As a result, the firmness of the skin, its elasticity improves, the number of fine wrinkles decreases and the depth of senile wrinkled folds decreases. Thus, using retinoic ointment for the face can improve the appearance of aging skin.
Note: reviews of cosmetologists about retinoic ointment confirm the fact that the anti-aging effect occurs only after long-term use of the ointment. According to clinical studies, the minimum duration of therapy should be 36 weeks.
Retinoic acne ointment
Retinoic ointment is one of the few compositions that is not simply used for cosmetic purposes independently (at the patient’s initiative), but is prescribed for the treatment of cosmetic defects by a doctor. According to the instructions, it is used to treat acne (eels), acne and skin inflammation (dermatitis).
Retinoic acid normalizes the functioning of the sebaceous glands. It reduces the viscosity of sebaceous secretions and facilitates the removal of sebum. As a result, the face becomes less shiny and oily, and less sebaceous accumulations (blackheads, blackheads, comedones) form.
Effect of retinoic ointment from blackheads based on its ability to normalize sebum secretions. The sebaceous secretion is a breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms. Its accumulations lead to blockages of pores and inflammatory processes, redness of the skin, and the formation of ulcers. The use of retinoids normalizes sebaceous secretion, dissolves oxidized plugs (so-called blackheads) and stimulates the outflow of stagnant skin lubricant from the pores. Thus, acne becomes smaller, and the skin of the face acquires its normal flesh color.
And further: retinoic acid can cure oily seborrhea, remove dandruff and itching. To confirm this, we provide visual images of the effect of retinoic ointment (before and after photos).
Note: in the composition of the ointment, the effect of cleaning the sebaceous ducts is annihilated by the Vaseline composition. The oily base clogs the cleaned pores and blocks their full breathing. Therefore, for the treatment of acne and acne, it is better to use gel forms of the drug rather than ointment ones. They contain less fatty components, which allows the skin pores to breathe. This fact is confirmed by real reviews from cosmetologists about the use of retinoic ointment.
Features of application
There is an opinion that a good retinoic ointment rejuvenates the skin only after it causes irritation. This is true. Retinoic acid has some irritating effects. Therefore, before the effect of skin tightening becomes noticeable, the face may turn red and begin to peel.
Note: the effect of redness and irritation is stronger when using ointment, and weaker when using cream or gel.
Due to the irritant effect cosmetologists are recommended to start treatment with 0.05% ointment. The minimum concentration of isotretinoin allows the skin to “get used to it.” Afterwards, switch to ointment 0,1%.
In addition, it is important to choose the right treatment regimen. To avoid irritation and burns, the course of acne treatment is divided into 4 weeks and the following scheme is used:
- 1st week – ointment is applied at night after 3 days.
- 2nd week – ointment is applied at night after 2 days.
- 3rd week – the ointment is applied at night every other day.
- 4th week – ointment is used every night.
It is important to consider: the composition is not applied where the skin is thin and vulnerable (for example, It is not recommended to apply around the eyes).
Retinoic ointment for age spots
Pigmentation is the appearance of spots on the skin with a different shade (lighter or darker). Treatment of pigmentation is determined by the cause of its appearance. In most cases, the skin needs nutrition, and sometimes whitening components.
With some stretch, retinoic ointment can be called a remedy for age spots. It promotes the formation of new cells, which over time returns the skin to its normal color. However, the effectiveness of the retinoic composition against spots is very small.
Retinoic ointment for stretch marks
Stretch marks on the abdomen are a cosmetic defect that forms on the skin of the abdomen in pregnant women. It is difficult to treat. Restoring the original appearance is possible with complete renewal of the skin. Therefore, you can use retinoic ointment for stretch marks, but this will not always completely remove this defect.
Contraindications to retinoic ointment
There are the following contraindications to the use of ointment with retinoids:
- Retinoic ointment is not used in case of an allergic reaction to synthetic components of the drug.
- Retinoids are not prescribed to pregnant and breastfeeding women. They are also not recommended when planning pregnancy. The effect of retinol on the uterine and infant child is not fully understood. Therefore, manufacturers do not take responsibility for the use of ointment during pregnancy and feeding.
A very small list of contraindications confirms that retinoic ointment can be used by almost everyone - women and men, adults and adolescents. For successful treatment without complications, you need to know that long-term use of retinol can cause hypervitaminosis (overdose of vitamin A). Signs of which will be general aches, headaches, dry skin, as well as the appearance of inflammatory processes in the digestive organs (intestines, stomach).
Analogues of retinoic ointment
The price of retinoic ointment is less than its more effective analogues - gels or lotions with retinoids (vitamins and provitamins of group A). However, treatment with ointment does not always bring results. What can replace the composition with isotretinoin if its effect is too irritating to the skin?
Analogue preparations of Retinoic ointment contain a similar active substance (retinoid) or its synthetic form (gel, cream or solution instead of ointment). Here are the names of some of them:
- Preparations with the same active ingredient - Isotrexin gel and Retasol solution (contains isotretinoin). In addition, Isotrexin gel contains the antibiotic erythromycin. The gel form of the drug is better suited for oily skin (it clogs pores less). In addition, the gel is quickly absorbed and does not leave marks on clothes. As for the solution, a lotion with the same name (Retasol) is produced on its basis. It contains isopretinoin in a small concentration (only 0.025%). This is not enough to get rid of wrinkles, but it helps treat inflammation and acne.
- Preparations with other active ingredients, which also represents the natural form of provitamin A - tretinoin. Their names are Lokacid, Airol. These analogues are characterized by a strong irritant effect on the skin.
- Preparations with another active substance of synthetic origin - adapalene. This is Differin and Clensite.
- Acnecutane, Roaccutane – drugs that are dispensed with a prescription from a dermatologist. They contain high doses of isotretinoin (0.8% instead of 0.1%) and are used to treat severe forms of acne (acne in medical terminology). These formulations are highly effective acne remedies and are characterized by aggressive action.
More often than others, they offer Retinoic ointment as an analogue Differin cream or gel. What are its differences and are there any advantages to replacing it? Which is better - retinoic ointment or differin?
Differin is a cream or gel for the treatment of acne and skin inflammation. It contains a synthetic analogue of retinoic acid, adapalene. It accelerates skin exfoliation and reduces the activity of inflammatory mediators. As a result, the number of comedones is reduced and inflammatory processes (rashes and pimples) are reduced.
For the treatment of acne, both products are interchangeable. There is a slight difference in age restrictions. Retinoic ointment can be used on children, but Differin cannot.. There is also a difference in the irritant effect on the skin (Differin is more irritating, sometimes they even say that “Differin burned the skin”). Otherwise, the actions of the drugs are similar.
Reviews
Retinoic ointment helps with acne to everyone I advised. I myself use it weekly to exfoliate my face.
First, my acne disappeared from the retinoic ointment, and then, over time, even the old acne marks—spots, depressions on my face—disappeared.
I have oily skin, in summer and winter I have acne and a shiny forehead. I save myself with retinoic ointment. After it, the skin becomes silkier, less shiny and less acne forms. So I recommend it.
Retinoic ointment is great for people with dry skin. It is also a good anti-wrinkle remedy. It’s not that there are no wrinkles, but there is less sagging, and the color has become normal.

HOW TO BEAUTY: Step-by-step lessons for New Year's makeup from Givenchy
Retinol is a superstar of age-related skin care, which really helps fight the unwanted signs of age: wrinkles, folds, enlarged pores, sun damage, rough skin. And the list goes on.
Dermatologists have long elevated vitamin A to a pedestal and recognized it as the gold standard in management. age-related changes. But there is more than one type of retinol on the market today, which can add confusion to those new to this beauty ingredient. Which cosmetic product is best for your skin? How does each type of retinol act on the skin: do they help get rid of wrinkles and acne? What is the difference between retinol and retinoids? Editorial Beauty Hub found answers to all my pressing questions so that I could finally decide and make my own skin better than ever.
“When we talk about retinol, retinoids, or retin A, we're talking about retinoic acid and its derivatives,” explains New York dermatologist Dandy Engelman, MD. – Pure retinoic acid – incredibly effective cell ingredient, which is able to connect with almost any skin cell receptors and transmit to them information that the cells should behave like young ones. It also functions as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that lead to wrinkles and other signs of aging. "In addition, retinol has been clinically proven to increase collagen production, and there is now new research suggesting its potential in elastin production."
The difference between pure retinol, also known as retinoic acid, and retinoids is that its derivative products: retinaldehyde, retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, retyl linoleate and others are esters of retinol. As a rule, you see their names on labels and in the list of ingredients. Retinoids must still be converted to retinoic acid at the cellular level in order to leather could use it for its intended purpose. The more transformations a retinoid needs to undergo to turn into retinoic acid, the weaker its effect.
This is why many people turn to dermatologists and plastic surgeons to get a prescription for more effective types of retinol: the same retin A or tretinoin. They contain a higher concentration of retinoic acid compared to options that are sold in the mass market; the percentage of retinoic acid in them is only 0.5–2%.
“Biochemically, retinoids and pure retinol work in the same way. But to wait visible effect Retinoids take time to work because they are weaker than pure retinol, says Dr. Engelman. Over time, using retinol or retinoids in your daily care, you will certainly see skin renewal, reduction of wrinkles, improved tone and skin texture. You will feel that your skin is better able to protect itself from environmental pollution and that its barrier function has improved. And if at first the skin reacted to retinoids with irritation, then over time it gets used to them. Even the most sensitive skin can be trained to tolerate them.”
New York dermatologist Heidi Waldof, MD, says that patients with significant signs of photoaging or skin damage acne may get better results from prescription retinoic acid products such as tazarotene and tretinoin. “But if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to start your retinol journey with mild over-the-counter retinoid forms,” advises Dr. Waldof.
Here are some tips from the experts for those new to using retinol.
Use products with retinol and retinoids only in the evening.
Start gradually incorporating retinol into your beauty routine in the evenings (sunlight deactivates retinoic acid, so such products do not work during the day). Use it once a week at first, monitoring your skin's reaction, gradually move up to three times a week, after your skin gets used to the retinol, you can use it every other day. This gradual introduction of retinoids allows the skin to adapt to it without negative skin reactions.
Apply retinol to prepared skin, for example, 20 minutes after moisturizing with your regular cream. Mix retinol with a moisturizing or nourishing cream or facial oil to avoid redness and flaking.
If you use wax to remove facial hair, then products with retinol can only be applied 2-5 days after hair removal.
Don't use too much retinol at once; the dose should not exceed the size of an average pea. This is enough to cover your entire face.
Apply retinol product in small dots, avoiding areas around the eyes and lips (step back about a centimeter or more from the eyebrows and lips). Then rub the product into the skin with gentle massaging movements.
Retinol can be drying and cause flaking, so add hyaluronic acid and hyaluronic acid-based serums to your skin for extra hydration. Some retinol products already contain hyaluronic acid.
Don't forget to use retinol on your neck, décolleté and hands.

How can you preserve the beauty and youth of your face at Balzac’s age without the use of expensive salon procedures? There are many alternative methods based on the use of available pharmaceutical drugs. Among them, retinoic ointment for wrinkles is especially popular.
The main purpose of this drug is to combat various forms of acne, however, this product is also successfully used for cosmetic purposes. More than one generation of women has been using retinoic ointment for the purpose of rejuvenation, since its unique properties allow it to slow down the process of skin aging. How the drug works, what is included in its composition and what are the features of its use when caring for aging skin, you will learn from our article.
Retinoic ointment for wrinkles: description of the drug
Retinoic ointment is a drug for external use that dermatologists prescribe to their patients for the treatment of acne, comedones, seborrhea and rosacea. But the composition of the ointment has such powerful regenerative and restorative properties that this product could not go unnoticed by cosmetologists. Experts note the dermatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, keratolytic and immunomodulatory effects of the drug, which have a beneficial effect on the condition of aging skin.
The active component of the ointment is isotretinoin, which is a synthetic analogue of vitamin A (retinol). Essentially, this substance is an active form of retinoic acid, which accelerates the processes of regeneration and cellular metabolism. It is this component that ensures the high effectiveness of the drug in the fight against wrinkles, evens out skin texture, improves complexion and fights pigment spots and the first signs of aging.
Everyone knows that with a lack of vitamin A, the skin quickly becomes dry, flabby, loses elasticity and becomes wrinkled. The use of ointment allows you to stop this process. Isotretinoin, penetrating into the deep layers of the skin, promotes its healing and hydration from the inside. This substance stimulates rapid regeneration and cell renewal and activates the production of your own collagen, which restores skin tone and smoothes wrinkles.
Retinoic ointment is produced in aluminum tubes of 10 and 35 g. The concentration of the active substance can be 0.05% or 0.1%. In addition to the main component, the ointment contains ethyl alcohol, petroleum jelly, wax, dibunol, and glycerin. The action of the excipients is aimed at softening the skin and reducing the aggressive influence of the main component.
Properties
The use of retinoic ointment for cosmetic purposes helps achieve the following results:
- The secretion of sebum (sebum) is reduced;
- Lightening of the skin and improvement of complexion are noted:
- The turgor of the epidermis increases;
- The skin texture is evened out, facial wrinkles are smoothed out.
The use of retinoic ointment for the purpose of rejuvenation allows you to activate cellular metabolism and accelerate the natural processes of regeneration and cell renewal. This promotes rapid restoration of the epidermis and stimulates the production of collagen, which returns the skin to its former firmness and elasticity. The use of ointment helps cleanse the skin pores of sebaceous plugs, as a result of which the skin is saturated with oxygen, the function of the sebaceous glands is normalized, sebum production is reduced, and inflammation disappears.
A distinctive feature of isotretinoin is its ability to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. Unlike many cosmetic products that affect only the superficial (horny) layer of the epidermis, the vitamin A analogue penetrates deep into the tissue, affecting the functions of the sebaceous glands and improving the condition of the skin at the cellular level. It is these properties of the drug, together with the anti-inflammatory and keratolytic effects, that determined its main purpose.
Initially, the ointment was used only to combat pimples and acne, but soon specialists and patients noted an amazing effect. Simultaneously with the disappearance of acne, the condition of the skin significantly improved, it became smooth, elastic, facial wrinkles were smoothed out, and the face looked much younger than before starting to use the drug. These properties of retinoic ointment have been adopted by cosmetologists, and now they recommend this drug to their clients as an anti-aging product.
Instructions for use
It is a mistake to believe that retinoic ointment can miraculously transform the face and instantly get rid of wrinkles. This is wrong. It takes time to achieve a positive result. It may take several months for the anti-aging effect to appear. Instructions for using retinoic ointment for wrinkles have their own characteristics. It cannot be combined with exposure to ultraviolet rays, so as not to cause photosensitivity reactions (increased sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation). Therefore, if you use retinoic ointment, you will have to avoid visiting the solarium and prolonged exposure to the sun.
To avoid unwanted complications, experts advise applying the ointment in the evening, preferably before bed, in the time period from 21.00 to 22.00 hours. If you use the drug during the day, then before going outside, be sure to use a protective cream with a high SPF factor. During anti-aging procedures using retinoic cream, the skin should not be subjected to chemical or mechanical damage. That is, it is prohibited to use abrasive scrubs, peels using fruit acids, or use tonics or lotions containing alcohol.
Facial treatment should be carried out as follows:
- First you need to cleanse the skin. It is recommended to thoroughly rinse your face several times with warm water without using soap or other cosmetics.
- Then the skin is blotted with a soft cloth.
- The ointment is applied to dry, clean skin, without affecting the delicate area around the eyes;
- It is best to apply the drug specifically to problem areas of the face, where age-related changes are especially pronounced (wrinkles, sagging);
- After application, the ointment is left until completely absorbed, the excess is blotted with a paper napkin.
- After 20 minutes, you can wash your face with warm water and apply your favorite nourishing or moisturizing cream. If after using the ointment you feel a burning sensation and discomfort, the drug should be washed off immediately, this will help avoid irritation and other unpredictable reactions.
Retinoic ointment can be used starting from the age of 30, at the first signs of aging and deterioration of the skin. Experts recommend carrying out a course of treatment twice a year, preferably in the off-season (early spring or late autumn). The duration of each course of treatment is from 14 to 28 days.
It is strictly not recommended to use retinoic ointment in hot summers, as it aggravates the skin's sensitivity to sunlight and any, even slight, tan can lead to the appearance of age spots or sunburn. You should not use the drug in cases where you are taking vitamin A or multivitamin complexes that contain it. This can lead to hypervitaminosis and provoke undesirable consequences.
A safer analogue of retinoic ointment can be prepared independently at home. To do this, just buy liquid vitamin A (retinol) in capsules at the pharmacy and use it to enrich the face cream you use daily. For one procedure, 1 tsp is enough. nourishing cream, add the contents of 1 capsule, mix thoroughly and apply to the face, being careful not to touch the area around the eyes. The procedure can be repeated for 2 weeks. Before using the homemade cream for the first time, do not forget to perform a skin test.
Contraindications and side effects
Like most medications, retinoic ointment has a number of contraindications. This medication belongs to a group of retinoids that can cause serious side effects. The drug should not be used in the following cases:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding period;
- Individual intolerance;
- Diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- Impaired liver and kidney functions;
- Chronic pancreatitis
Do not use the ointment in combination with other retinoids, hormonal agents, or tetracycline antibiotics. Since this medication has many contraindications, you should consult your doctor before using it.
In large doses, vitamin A is toxic and can cause unpleasant effects. The most common side effect is the development of an allergic reaction (rash, redness, skin irritation). Therefore, before using the ointment for the first time, be sure to do a skin test, this will help avoid serious complications. Apply a small amount of the drug to your wrist and monitor the reaction. Cover the treated area with a band-aid and leave it for a day. If during this time the skin does not react with burning, itching, rash or redness, you can safely use retinoic ointment for anti-aging procedures.
In addition to an allergic reaction, the following manifestations are possible with an overdose of vitamin A:
- The appearance of frequent headaches;
- Increased intracranial pressure;
- Depressive states;
- Development of conjunctivitis, photophobia, corneal opacity;
- Nausea;
- Increased photosensitivity;
- Changes in blood counts;
- Nosebleeds, anemia;
- Dryness and peeling of the skin, dermatitis;
- Increased sweating, muscle pain.
As you can see, the use of retinoid drugs can cause serious health problems, so you should not use this remedy thoughtlessly and uncontrollably. Ointment for external use does not cause such serious reactions as tablet retinoids, but its use should be approached with caution and only after consultation with a specialist.
If you decide to apply the drug for cosmetic purposes, you should strictly follow the instructions for use and not exceed the maximum possible time of use. Before use, be sure to study possible contraindications and if any of the above side effects occur, discontinue further use of the product. Only by following all precautions can you achieve the desired result without causing harm to your own health.
The drug can be purchased at a pharmacy without a doctor's prescription. The price of retinoic ointment for wrinkles ranges from 180 to 290 rubles, depending on the volume of the tube. The medication is produced by the Moscow pharmaceutical company Retinoids. In the pharmacy chain you can find the drug with different concentrations of the active substance (0.05% and 0.1%), both of which are suitable for cosmetic purposes.
Reviews from cosmetologists and ordinary users about the use of retinoic ointment for wrinkles are very different. Some users note that at the beginning of using the drug, severe peeling occurred, but by the end of the course of treatment, the skin became smooth and smooth. Other reviews indicate that in many cases, the use of the drug causes a burning sensation and redness of the skin. Cosmetologists associate such manifestations with increased sensitivity or improper use of the product. In general, if all the nuances of use are observed and there are no contraindications, retinoic ointment really improves the condition of mature skin, has a rejuvenating effect and helps eliminate wrinkles and premature sagging.
When applied topically, a remedy with isotretinoin prevents the accumulation of dead cells in the superficial layers of the epidermis. As a result, the skin on the face becomes smooth and wrinkles are smoothed out. By normalizing the functioning of the sebaceous glands, an additional healing effect is achieved, the condition of the skin improves, the pores are cleansed of sebaceous secretions, and the complexion is evened out. A pronounced anti-aging result is ensured when the use of retinoic ointment is combined with a healthy lifestyle, proper facial skin care and the use of high-quality cosmetics.

A friend advised me to buy retinoic ointment for wrinkles. The drug is sold without a prescription, but when I read the instructions, I doubted it. The ointment is intended for the treatment of acne, moreover, it has an impressive list of contraindications, and I’m generally silent about side effects.
On Internet forums, some users write about excellent results, others about unpredictable consequences. But I decided to try it anyway, first I did a skin test. Everything went smoothly. Then I began to apply the ointment at night to particularly problematic areas in the forehead and nasolabial folds.
Soon I noticed that my skin began to peel off. To prevent overdrying, I bought rosehip oil, it helped. As a result, I used retinoic ointment for three weeks and there really is a positive effect. My skin has evened out, wrinkles have smoothed out, and now I look much younger.

I've heard a lot about how retinoic ointment can be used as an anti-aging cream. According to reviews on the Internet, it fights wrinkles well and smoothes the skin. I decided to test its effect on myself. After the first application, I felt a slight burning sensation, but did not attach much importance to it.
The next day the reaction was more pronounced, the skin turned red and soon became covered in a rash. Some reviews from cosmetologists said that such manifestations do occur. You just need to be patient and as you continue to use the ointment, the skin will get used to it and everything will pass. But I didn’t tempt fate and refused to use the drug.

I use retinoic ointment twice a year to combat wrinkles. And the result suits me quite well. After the course of treatment, the skin looks fresh, smooth and the rejuvenating effect lasts for a long time.
There have never been any adverse reactions from the ointment, you just need to know how to use it correctly. You need to understand that this is a medicine, not a cosmetic cream, and take precautions. And then a positive result will not be long in coming and within a month the skin will tighten and wrinkles will become invisible.
