Hi all! Please help me choose a foundation. Not a single foundation has yet matched the shade; all are either red, yellow, or pink. Because of this, the difference with the neck is visible. Only recently I realized that the problem is that, despite the fact that my skin is not dark, it has an olive tint. If anyone can recommend a foundation with olive undertones, please write the name. The price doesn't matter. Preferably not matting. Thanks in advance for your advice.

use yellow. Garnier BB cream is like this
Olive in my understanding is a slightly earthy tone, with a green pigment. That’s what I do, I use yellow, it’s just not always convenient to tint the neck. I decided to ask, because... There is not much information on the Internet, what if someone also has this skin tone?
Only the second shade of Lumine SS cream suited me, but it is a light cream, the texture is not at all dense, I am looking for a similar shade from other brands and manufacturers - so far in vain

It's hard to believe, but back in the 90s of the last century, fashion was the same for everyone. But a little later, a new trend came to us from America - to determine the nature of a woman and the colors that suit her by the shade of her skin, hair and eyes. The created color types were named according to the seasons. Which one are women with olive skin?
What girl hasn't had to deal with the problem of choosing the right outfit color or lipstick? The desire to show oneself in a favorable light is often confused with the desire to look fashionable, and as a result, the choice often turns out to be the wrong one. After all, if one color noticeably refreshes and corrects imperfections, then the other gives a tired and boring look.
To help women make mistakes a little less often, they came up with the “Seasons” theory of color types, which classified women by the shade of their face, hair and eyes. And everything would be fine, but the olive skin color stands out somewhat from the general classification. Let's find out what suits these ladies.
Skin with olive undertones: general description and characteristics
What is olive complexion? This is a special undertone of the skin, which is the result of the presence of green and yellow pigments in the upper layer of the epidermis. In natural light, such skin looks yellow with a greenish tint. It got its name not from the olives in a martini glass or in a salad, but from the oil. Doesn't sound very attractive, does it?
In reality, happy owners of olive-colored faces look excellent, while others try to get closer to a similar shade with the help of cosmetics and folk remedies.
According to the generally accepted classification, all skin tones should be divided into cold, warm and neutral. Olive skin does not fall under any of these types, being a complex, complex undertone.
Often the olive color in combination with brown hair misleads girls, and they consider themselves to be an autumn color type, which affects their preferences in makeup and outfits. As a result, warm tones risk seriously spoiling the overall impression of the image, as they give the face an earthiness and grayness.
In fact, depending on the type of olive skin tone, girls can be classified into two main color types – winter and summer:
- Light olive skin. Ladies with this complexion are usually blessed with blue, gray-green or hazel eyes. Hair color is typical for people of the Slavic type, ranging from light brown to dark, almost chestnut tones. This type also includes those who have acquired gray-ash hair. The girl's image looks slightly aristocratic; the cool olive color of her skin defines her as a summer type. This becomes the main factor in choosing the colors of cosmetics and clothing - always cold, but clean and bright summer colors.
- Dark olive skin color. An intense, rich complexion creates the impression of a tan and dark complexion. Girls with such skin are often envied because they look incredibly bright and impressive. They have a bright eye color, brown or green, and their natural hair color is often darker than chestnut. Due to the contrast in their image, these girls are classified as a cold, winter color type.
Despite the different undertones, ladies of winter and summer types with olive skin are recommended to use the same cool and pure colors when choosing clothes and makeup. These are mint, emerald, gray or silver, cold burgundy or blue. In this case, you should avoid peach, brick and other warm shades, which can make your face look tired and unhealthy.
Makeup Features
Often, owners of olive skin color are unaware of their exclusivity. They choose the wrong shades of cosmetics and, as a result, mistakenly consider their face to be sallow and gray. However, proper makeup and the right outfit will help a lady stand out among the crowd and become unusually attractive.
So, let’s choose the right shades in makeup that can add expressiveness to ladies with olive-colored faces:
- Makeup base. When choosing a suitable base, you should pay attention to your color type. For summer girls, a light fluid or mineral base with a yellowish or beige undertone is suitable. Winter types should stick to pinkish bases to avoid greyness and earthy undertones.
- The blush is a cool pink, but not peach or apricot. It is worth remembering that the blush should be of the same intensity as the lipstick, otherwise the image risks becoming provocative. If we are talking about the Winter Woman, then she does not need bright makeup a priori, since she already has a contrasting and spectacular appearance.
- Lipstick for olive skin can be red or plum, but never peach or beige. Champagne-colored lipstick, carrot or creamy shades are rarely suitable for such girls.
- Focus on the eyes! Don't forget about black eyeliner and mascara, as well as light smoky shadows. Nude style makeup is in fashion, so don’t get carried away with bright blue or steely shades and paint your eyelids with a thick layer. The main thing is to get rid of signs of fatigue under the eyes and slightly highlight the area under the eyebrows with a shimmering tone, giving the look clarity and freshness.
Regardless of your skin tone or color type, you should experiment with cosmetics wisely. Both the Winter Woman and the Summer Woman are required to observe generally accepted standards of etiquette and, depending on the time of day and situation, adhere to the appropriate makeup rules.
A large amount of cosmetics will look out of place in the office or when choosing a sporty look. At the same time, even for the winter type it is permissible to use slightly brighter makeup for a celebration or party.
Makeup example
Let's look at an example of makeup for girls with olive skin and brown hair step by step:
- Preparing for makeup. Often girls miss one of the most important moments, inadvertently provoking the appearance of extra wrinkles, signs of aging and fatigue. Preparing for makeup is similar to makeup removal - removing residual makeup. To do this, the skin is cleansed with milk, washed with a special gel or foam, and then toned with lotion. Then a moisturizer is applied, which evens out the structure of the face and fills fine wrinkles, prevents flaking and protects the skin from cosmetics.
- The basis. It is better to choose a foundation with a slightly grayish or yellowish tint. If your skin doesn't require a lot of coverage, you can skip this step and use a light moisturizing BB cream. After which, you should use a corrector, eliminating unevenness and redness, fixing everything with a small amount of powder.
- Blush. A grayish-beige blush is suitable for this look. Applying blush is a fairly complex task, the main goal of which is to smooth out rough edges and highlight bulges.
- Eyes. Dark or chocolate shades will not suit brown hair and olive skin. It is enough to use black or dark brown eyeliner, distributing it between the eyelashes of the lower and upper eyelids. Apply shimmering light shadows under the eyebrows to refresh your look. Mascara is applied in two layers.
- The lips are lightly powdered, after which a berry or red shade is used. Then lipstick is applied, avoiding violation of the contour boundaries. You can drop a little gloss into the middle of the lower lip, this will add juiciness and seductiveness to them.
“Lighter” and “darker” are not all that can be said about foundation shades. It needs to be selected according to your color type, taking into account whether it is warm or cold

- Foundations with cool undertones: review
Even a very light foundation with a reddish tint on pale porcelain skin can look unnatural. A seemingly small mistake in choosing a shade leads to serious dissonance in the image - the makeup becomes like a mask. Therefore, you need to pay attention to what undertone the cream has, comparing all its color nuances with the undertone of your skin.
Who is suitable for foundation with cool undertones?
First of all, we are talking about girls with a cold color type of appearance. The division of color types into warm and cold is the most general classification; It won't be difficult to figure out which of these two categories you fall into. There are several ways to find out.
First, you can take a closer look at your skin by holding a piece of white paper to your face. Against its background, it will immediately become clear what kind of skin you have - with warm or cool undertones.
Secondly, you can remember which jewelry suits you best: gold usually looks better on warm-toned skin, and silver is in harmony with a “cold” appearance.
Thirdly, there is a method for determining the color type by the shade of the veins on the hands. For those with a warm color type they are green; for girls whose appearance is predominantly “cold” they appear blue.
To be sure, you can do all three tests and get the most accurate result, but usually one is enough. We wrote more about how to determine your skin tone in this article.
If we talk about the division into color types according to the seasons, then cold shades of foundation should be chosen for “summer” (the appearance of people with this color type is distinguished by a cold, ashen undertone) and “winter” (a typical “winter” is a brunette with pale skin, “snow white” ).
Cool shades of foundation
Cool foundation colors differ depending on the individual characteristics of the skin for which they are produced. Cold toned foundations are as follows.
Porcelain
This is usually one of the lightest shades available in foundation collections. It is used by girls with pale, thin skin that looks transparent: veins are visible through it. In this case, porcelain foundation evens out and “thickens” the tone, helping the skin gain a fresh and healthy look.
Ivory
In this shade, beige is mixed with yellow pigments, which, however, does not make it warm. It is suitable for those who have fair skin, but cannot be called pale.
Light beige
A sandy shade, in which the addition of ash-gray is noticeable, is an option for girls of a cool color type with medium-toned skin.
Olive
This shade has a cool undertone, but it also contains warm pigments; it can be considered neutral and therefore the most universal. The probability of making a mistake with such a shade is very small.
Which cool shade of foundation should you choose?
Even if you have determined your color type and know for sure that you need a foundation with a cool undertone, choosing “that same” shade is still worth spending time and attention on. If you have several options to purchase, use a tester and apply a little cream with a disposable applicator (or you can take a brush with you) to the skin of the neck or cheek in the lower part.
It is wrong to try foundation on the wrist: the skin here is usually darker than on the face, which is why mistakes often happen when buying cosmetics. And don’t forget that when choosing a cream, it is important to consider not only the shade, but also the texture of the product. You will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of different textures here.
We showed you how to apply foundation on your face in 3 different ways in this video tutorial.
Foundation for blondes
When a girl with blond hair (meaning natural blond) has a cold color type, then the skin is most often also very light, sometimes even pale. In this case, the choice will be limited to the two lightest shades of foundation: porcelain and ivory.
Foundation for brunettes
Porcelain shade and ivory color are also suitable for brunettes with the “winter” color type. However, there are girls with dark hair and medium-toned skin, which is distinguished by a cool grayish undertone. Then it is better to use an olive shade of cream or sandy beige without red.
Foundations with cool undertones: review
Fit Me in shade No. 95 “Light Porcelain”, Maybelline New York
You probably won't find anything lighter and cooler in the Fit Me range of shades. If immediately after application it turns out that it is not 100% compatible with your natural skin tone, you don’t have to worry: the formula of the product can adapt to the skin. After a couple of minutes, the coating will literally merge with it. The composition contains powder microparticles that mattify the skin, fill enlarged pores and smooth out other skin imperfections; this makes Fit Me a godsend no matter the shade.
Skin Feels Good in shade No. 010С Cool Porcelaine, Lancôme
Another product that can adapt to skin tone. Among the five main shades in the Skin Feels Good range is cold No. 010C Cool Porcelaine, which is suitable for girls of “summer” and “winter” types with very fair skin. The coating will be almost invisible. The thing is that Skin Feels Good has a powerful moisturizing function: it contains hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Moringa extract, which is also contained in the product, nourishes the skin and protects it from free radicals.
Maestro Fusion Make-Up in shade No. 4, Giorgio Armani
Among the shades available in the Maestro Fusion Make-Up line, there are also those that would suit girls with medium skin tones and a cool color type. This, for example, is No. 4 from the Maestro Fusion Make-Up collection. The product is a thin, weightless veil that gently corrects skin tone. There will be no noticeable lightening or darkening - only complete fusion with the natural skin tone.
Petal Skin Fluid in shade No. 564, Shu Uemura
The coverage this foundation provides has been compared to a thin and delicate cherry blossom petal. Shade No. 564 gives the skin a fresh look - this result is due to the optimal combination of cool pigment with yellow. This option is suitable for girls with fair skin, which, however, is not pale. Mineral pigments are long-lasting, effectively mask imperfections and leave a pleasant semi-matte finish.
