This is a woman who has something at the mouth of the vagina that prevents copulation, for example, all kinds of dense growths - muscular or membranous, or there is an adhesion there after ulcers or in composition, or a barrier is formed between the mouth of the uterus and the mouth of the vagina due to one of the same reasons, or the woman has something in front of the mouth of the uterus that prevents conception and the release of menstruation - a membrane, an overgrown ulcer or something similar, or the passage does not exist at all by nature. Sometimes, at the beginning of menstruation, a girl’s blood does not find a way out for one of these reasons and she begins to experience severe pain and great torment, and if they don’t come up with something for her, then the blood returns, the woman turns black, suffocates and dies. And it also happens that a “locked” woman accidentally retains the seed, and then both she and the fetus will certainly die if doctors do not find some way. Such conception is possible only for two reasons: either the obstruction consists of a rare tissue, or there are many holes, so that the uterus can draw in some seed, although not much, and from this small amount the fetus is born, or part of the truth is that , what the philosopher believes, and part is what the physician Galen thinks, and the beginning necessary for the creation of human organs is the seed of a woman, according to the words of the philosopher, and it is expelled into the womb from within the womb, as Galen says. And from the male seed strength and pneuma are acquired, as the philosopher asserts, for he believes that when a windy egg experiences trampling and receives pneuma from the male seed, it becomes a birthing egg.
Treatment. A “locked” one is treated only with iron, nothing else, and if the fusion is external, then the correct method of action to break the fusion of the vaginal lips is this: a piece of fabric folded in several layers is placed on each lip and, protecting the thumbs of both hands with rags, the lips are stretched, until what is between them is torn apart. Or they resort to using a hidden lancet, with which they open the membrane and then little by little cut off the excess meat, if there is any under the membrane, so as not to leave anything extra, but not to capture the main one; the meat is cut with a sharp hook. And the difference between membrane and excess meat is that membrane does not bleed, but meat does. Then a woolen rag soaked in olive oil or wine is placed between the lips and left for three days; pour over honey-sweetened water if required. They also use a plaster with olive oil, being careful, however, that the lips do not grow together, join or shrink, especially if what was cut off was meat; the membrane rarely undergoes fusion after incision.
When the fusion is deep, the method of action is as follows: a hook is brought to it and, if it is a membrane, it is opened with one incision, not very straight, because the hook sometimes touches the bladder and other organs. On the contrary, you should take it obliquely from the place of the bladder and cut, if it is meat, little by little, constantly holding a woolen rag soaked in astringent, tart wine at the cut. Then, after this, the patient is placed in water in which relaxing medicines have been boiled, and then they use ointments suitable for wounds, inserting them into the vagina or injecting them, and then healing substances. And as soon as it becomes clear that she has been healed, copulation should be intensively performed with her.
With such an incision and cutting, one must be afraid of two things - an insufficient incision and a cut in the membrane in comparison with the size of the excess meat - this will make conception possible during copulation, but will complicate childbirth and expose the fetus and the pregnant woman to death, and beware of not going beyond the limits of excess meat and not to attack part of the substance of the uterus: then the uterus will swell and hurt, and this will cause cusaz, spasms and killing diseases. When you have done all this, you must carefully protect the patient from the cold and do not bring cold medicine near her at all. On the contrary, all substances used in the form of drops, injections and suppositories must be completely devoid of coldness.
