2-a-methylhydroteststerone is an anabolic steroid derivative that is used medically as an anticonvulsant to treat epilepsy in adults and children over 6 years of age.
The development of 2a-methylhydrosterone began in the mid-1960s for research into steroid chemistry. Professor Otmar Spiegel of the University of Vienna was born in Vienna on April 9, 1897. He trained at Columbia University, and from 1924 to 1937 he became a professor of pharmacology there. In 1951 he founded his institute in Gauder, later founded as the University of Gauder, now part of the Vienna University of Medical Sciences. He became director of the new institute and began systematic research into anabolic steroids
