A.T.10: description of the drug and its use

A.T.10 is a drug produced in Germany by Merck KGaA and belongs to the group of drugs based on parathyroid hormones. The international name of the drug is Dihydrotachysterol, and it can also be called Takhistin.

A.T.10 is presented in the form of a solution with a concentration of 1 mg/ml, which includes the active substance - Dihydrotachysterol. This drug is used to treat various diseases associated with insufficient secretion of parathyroid hormone, such as hypoparathyroidism (autoimmune, postoperative, after treatment with radioactive iodine, traumatic, sarcoidosis or tuberculosis, tumor), functional hypoparathyroidism (insufficient secretion of parathyroid hormone in response to hypocalcemia): in newborns born to mothers suffering from hypoparathyroidism, idiopathic neonatal hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia (malabsorption, vomiting and diarrhea, steatorrhea, diabetes mellitus, acute pancreatitis, alcoholism), vitamin D deficiency (nutritional deficiency, lack of UV rays, malabsorption, steatorrhea, short bowel syndrome , chronic pancreatitis, sprue), peripheral resistance to parathyroid hormone: pseudohypoparathyroidism (Albright's syndrome), chronic renal failure (renal osteodystrophy), iatrogenic hypocalcemia: hyperphosphatemia (including nutritional origin), prescription of large doses of EDTA, mithramycin, actinomycin, neomycin, bisphosphonates, thiazide diuretics, long-term use of laxatives, phenobarbital and other anticonvulsants, calcitonin overdose, massive transfusion of citrated blood, surgery under extracorporeal circulation.

Despite its wide range of uses, A.T.10 has contraindications, such as hypercalcemia and pregnancy. In addition, this drug can cause various side effects, including pallor, headaches, dizziness, weakness, palpitations, thirst, dyspeptic disorders (lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), pain in the right hypochondrium caused by contractions of the gallbladder, dysfunction kidneys, cardiosclerosis, pneumosclerosis, nephrolithiasis, calcification, osteosclerosis, metastatic calcification, arterial hypertension, Peyronie's disease, angioedema, allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema, allergic contact dermatitis).

The dosage and duration of treatment with A.T.10 should be determined individually depending on the purpose of treatment and the patient's condition. The drug is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously, usually at a dose of 0.025-0.05 mg/day. In some cases, a reappointment may be required.
