Acanthocheilonema

Acanthocheilonemiasis (lat. Acanthocheilonemiasis) is a human disease caused by nematodes of the species A. Viteae. The causative agent of the disease was first isolated in 1920 by the Argentine scientist Hugo Mendel and named after Dr. Saint Vincent Bael, who at one time led the fight against malaria in Argentina. In 1970, genetic studies revealed that the nematodes that infect humans are a subspecies of A. bilharzia-like nematodes.
