Actinerval: an anticonvulsant for the treatment of epilepsy and other diseases

Actinerval is an anticonvulsant produced in Argentina by the company Laboratorios Bago. Its active substance is carbamazepine, which is also known by its international name carbamazepine. Actinerval is used for the treatment of epilepsy (with the exception of petit mal), manic states, prevention of manic-depressive disorders, alcohol withdrawal, trigeminal and glossopharyngeal neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy.

Actinerval is available in the form of 200 mg tablets. It is taken orally after meals, usually two or three times a day. Dosage may vary depending on the patient's condition and response to treatment.

Like any medicine, Actinerval has contraindications and side effects. It is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to carbamazepine, atrioventricular block, myelosuppression or a history of acute porphyria, pregnancy (first trimester). Taking Actinerval can cause dizziness, headache, hallucinations, agitation, depression, aggressive behavior, activation of psychosis, diplopia, accommodation disturbances, lens clouding, nystagmus, conjunctivitis, tinnitus, changes in taste, speech disorders, abnormal involuntary movements, peripheral neuritis , paresthesia, muscle weakness and symptoms of paresis, atrioventricular block, congestive heart failure, hyper- or hypotension, thromboembolism, increased levels of liver enzymes, jaundice, hepatitis, renal dysfunction, interstitial nephritis, nausea, vomiting, osteomalacia, sexual dysfunction, hyponatremia, moderate leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hematopoietic disorders, multiorgan delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions, exfoliative dermatitis, lupus-like syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyell syndrome, anaphylactic reactions.

Actinerval may also interact with other medications, so you should consult your doctor before using it.

In case of an overdose of Actinerval, serious symptoms may occur, such as disorientation, hallucinations, convulsions, respiratory arrest, decreased blood pressure and cardiac activity. If you notice signs of overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
