Diabetic microvascular complications are late complications of diabetes that lead to damage to various organs and tissues such as the retina, nerves, kidneys, heart and blood vessels. One of the common diabetic microvascular complications is angiopathy, which is a consequence of progressive diabetic microangiopathy, i.e. systemic dysfunction of small vessels.
Angiopathy is damage to the small capillaries of the retina, which can lead to serious vision problems. It occurs as a result of the metabolic disorder of diabetes and can affect a person's vision to the point that it is difficult for them to see and navigate.
