Apo-Timopus

Apo-Timop: use, contraindications and side effects

Apo-Timop (international name Timolol) is an antiglaucoma drug used to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma, secondary glaucoma and aphakic glaucoma. It may also be prescribed for other medical purposes, including the treatment of hypertension, angina, migraines, anxiety, essential tremor, and prevention of recurrent myocardial infarction.

The drug is available in the form of drops for ophthalmic applications in two concentrations: 0.25% and 0.5%. The active ingredient is Timolol, which is a non-selective β-blocker. It reduces intraocular pressure, reducing the formation of intraocular fluid.

However, like any other drug, Apo-Timop has a number of contraindications and side effects that must be taken into account when using it. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the active substance, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, cardiogenic shock, acute and chronic heart failure, AV block II-III degree, sinus bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. Also, Apo-Timop should not be used for dystrophic diseases of the cornea, severe allergic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, during breastfeeding, early childhood, as well as for emphysema, non-allergic chronic bronchitis, vasomotor rhinitis, Raynaud's disease, impaired liver and/or kidney function, acidosis, diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, myasthenia gravis, in old age and in childhood when administered systemically.

When using Apo-Timop, various side effects may occur, such as dizziness, headache, asthenia, fatigue, sleep disturbance, insomnia, nightmares, depression, agitation, hallucinations, short-term amnesia, spatial disorientation, paresthesia, tinnitus, eye irritation, blurred vision, diplopia, ptosis, dry eye mucosa, transient blurred vision, burning and itching in the eyes, foreign body sensation in the eye, changes in refraction and visual acuity, lacrimation and conjunctivitis. Cardiac abnormalities such as bradycardia, arrhythmia, hypotension, syncope and heart failure, as well as respiratory disorders such as bronchospasm and cough, may also occur.

At the first sign of side effects, you should immediately consult your doctor and, if necessary, stop using the drug.

In general, Apo-Timop is an effective antiglaucoma drug, but its use should only occur under the supervision of a physician who will evaluate the indications and condition of the patient, as well as monitor for possible side effects.
