Arytenoidectomy

Arytenoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the arytenoid cartilage of the larynx. This surgery is performed to treat vocal cord paralysis.

The arytenoid cartilage is one of the cartilages of the larynx, which is part of the vocal apparatus. If the vocal cords are paralyzed, this cartilage can interfere with the normal functioning of the larynx. Aritenoidectomy allows you to remove the obstruction and restore mobility of the vocal cords.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision in the neck and enters the lumen of the larynx. The arytenoid cartilage is then carefully removed. After surgery, hoarseness may persist for some time. Full restoration of vocal function occurs after the wound heals.

Aritenoidectomy is an effective treatment for vocal cord paralysis. This operation allows you to remove the obstacle to the normal functioning of the larynx and return a full voice to the patient.
