Interosseous plantar arteries (A. interossei plantares) are two arteries that supply blood to the plantar muscle tissues located between the heads of the tarsal bones. It is the blood entering them that allows the muscles to contract and perform their functions.
The interosseous arteries, in turn, originate from the dorsal (continuation of the arteries of the posterior tibia) or dorsal navicular (derived from the anterior sections of the leg) arteries and are large arterial branches in this area of the leg. They supply blood to the deep sections of the muscles of the sole, which makes them especially important in cases of traumatic injuries to the bones and ligaments of the foot.
