Arteries of the Thalamus Lateral

The lateral thalamic arteries are paired cerebral arteries that supply blood to the thalamus and perithalamic structures. These arteries are among the most important arterial trunks in the brain, as they provide blood supply to the centrally vital structures of the brain.

The thalamus is a brain structure that lies beneath the corpus callosum and connects the lower hemispheres of the cerebral hemispheres. The thalamus plays an important role in processing information from sensory and motor systems and in regulating sleep-wake cycles. The limbic system, which is responsible for emotional regulation, also includes the thalamus.

The arteries supplying the thalamus originate from the posterior cerebral artery. Both paired arteries are located in the lateral cavity of the cerebrum and pass through the white matter
