There are two thalami in the human brain - the upper and lower parts of this formation. Both are located in the posterior part of the cerebral hemispheres, covering the thalamic cortex and the inferior parietal lobule. The upper section covers the cerebral peduncles, forming a flattened labial part, and the cerebral peduncle is attached to its base. The lower section faces ventrally, towards the base of the cerebrum.
