What is the ATYMUS artery?
ATIMUS artery is a very large artery, the branches of which provide blood supply and oxygen supply to the heart, in particular its ventricles; it is also involved in the blood supply to the lungs, brain and digestive organs.
The aorta is located in close proximity to the heart - under the sternum. It is an oval-shaped tube, the inner surface of which is covered with elastic connective tissue with a large amount of smooth muscle - the muscle fibers that form the artery can contract and relax as needed. Immediately after leaving the thoracic cavity, the aorta still has a relatively small diameter (20-22 mm), gradually increasing along its entire length. Already in the area of the human head, the diameter of the artery is about 30 mm, reaches 6 cm behind the sternum and can increase to 42 cm at waist level.
