Ovarian artery Definition of the ovarian artery The ovarian artery is an important blood vessel that provides blood supply to the ovaries and other pelvic organs in women. This artery is a branch of the abdominal aorta and is formed just before the entrance to the pelvic cavity, in the subcutaneous layer in front of the apex of the pubic symphysis. On the posterior surface of the rectum, the artery crosses with the inferior cystic vein and gathers into a plexus called the ovarian plexus.
