The descending knee artery (lat. arterior genu descendens) is the posterior and lateral musculoskeletal formation of the femur, running down along the medial wall of the quadriceps femoris tendon, to the knee joint and further to the foot. Its branches include the tendinous branches of the semitendinosus muscle and the teres muscle in the patella. Lymphatic vessels anastomose between the branches of the articular and axillary fossa and are sent to the femoral-genital lymph nodes. The artery of the stump of the leg is a branch of the deep artery of the femur, which arises from the arterial network of the knee joint and anastomoses with the saphenous artery.
