Asphyxia of the Newborn

Ixia of a newborn can be different and depends on the causes and duration of oxygen deficiency. In some newborns, symptoms of asphyxia may be mild and short-lived, while in others they may be severe and long-lasting, which can lead to death.

Newborns with asphyxia experience the following symptoms:

  1. Insufficient spontaneous breathing or its absence.

  2. Blueness of the skin and mucous membranes, which indicates a violation of gas exchange in the lungs.

  3. Decreased or absent cardiac activity, which can lead to cardiac arrest.

  4. Decreased muscle tone and reflexes, which is associated with impaired neuromuscular conduction.

  5. Impaired urination, which is associated with impaired urinary function of the kidneys.

  6. Swelling of the brain and other organs.

  7. Decreased body temperature.

Clinical and instrumental research methods are used to diagnose newborn asphyxia. Clinical diagnosis is made based on history, physical examination, and assessment of the newborn's symptoms and condition.

Instrumental research methods include electrocardiography, pulse oximetry, blood gas analysis, ultrasound of the abdominal organs, echocardiography, etc.

Treatment of newborn asphyxia should begin immediately and be carried out in specialized departments of maternity hospitals. First of all, it is necessary to ensure normal ventilation of the lungs and compensate for hemodynamic and metabolic disorders.

For this purpose, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, infusion therapy, transfusion of blood and blood substitutes, correction of electrolyte balance, etc. are used.

In the presence of complications (cerebral edema, hemorrhage, organ ischemia, etc.), it is necessary to carry out targeted therapy, including treatment of cerebral edema, anticoagulant therapy, etc.

In conclusion, newborn asphyxia is a serious clinical syndrome that requires immediate diagnosis and treatment. The main causes of asphyxia are oxygen deficiency of the fetus, extragenital diseases of the pregnant woman and complications during childbirth. Treatment of asphyxia should be carried out in specialized departments of maternity hospitals and include a set of measures to restore normal respiratory and cardiovascular function, as well as correct complications.
