Atelectasis Lamellar

Lamellar atelectasis (a. lamellosa) is a collapse of lung tissue, in which individual sections of the lung collapse. It is characterized by the presence of multiple thin plates of atelectasis located parallel to the pleural surface.

Reasons for development:

  1. Airway obstruction (foreign body, tumor).
  2. Violation of the elastic properties of lung tissue.
  3. External compression of the lung (pleural effusion, pneumothorax).

Clinical manifestations:

  1. Dyspnea.
  2. Decreased chest excursion.
  3. Dullness of percussion sound.
  4. Decreased breathing upon auscultation.

Diagnosis is based on chest x-ray.

Treatment: elimination of the cause, sanitation of the bronchial tree, drainage of the pleural cavity, respiratory support.

The prognosis depends on the etiology and timeliness of treatment. With adequate therapy, complete restoration of lung tissue is possible.
