Betacard-50: use, side effects and interactions
Betacard-50 is a cardioselective beta1-blocker, the main active substance of which is Atenolol. The drug is manufactured in India by Torrent Pharmaceuticals and is presented in the form of film-coated tablets containing 50 mg of Atenolol.
Betacard-50 is used to treat various diseases and conditions related to the cardiovascular system. It is effective for arterial hypertension, angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction (with stable hemodynamic parameters), tachycardia (sinus, atrial, ventricular, paroxysmal, etc.), extrasystole, atrial flutter and fibrillation, hyperkinetic cardiac syndrome, mitral valve prolapse, neurocirculatory dystonia according to hypertensive type, as well as in complex therapy of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, essential tremor and migraine (for prevention).
However, like any other drug, Betacard-50 has its contraindications and side effects. The drug is not recommended for hypersensitivity to its components, sinus bradycardia (heart rate less than 50 beats per minute), sinoatrial block, sick sinus syndrome, AV block II-III degree, arterial hypotension (systolic blood pressure less than 90 mm Hg) , acute or chronic heart failure in the stage of decompensation, cardiogenic shock, peripheral circulatory disorders and during breastfeeding.
Side effects of Betacard-50 include increased fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, drowsiness or insomnia, nightmares, depression, anxiety, confusion or short-term memory loss, hallucinations, decreased reactivity, paresthesia, and convulsions. Visual impairment, decreased secretion of saliva and tear fluid, and conjunctivitis may also be observed. From the cardiovascular system and blood, bradycardia, palpitations, impaired myocardial conduction, AV block, arrhythmias, weakened myocardial contractility, heart failure, hypotension, syncope, Raynaud's phenomenon are possible.
It is also worth considering that Betacard-50 can interact with other medications, enhancing or weakening their effect. For example, in combination with antiarrhythmic drugs, MAO inhibitors, drugs containing alpha-agonists, drugs that increase potassium levels in the blood, as well as with some diuretics, an increased hypotensive effect and a decrease in heart rate may be observed. The combined use of Betacard-50 and insulin or hypoglycemic drugs may lead to a decrease in blood glucose levels.
Therefore, before starting to use Betacard-50, you must consult with your doctor, who will select the optimal dosage and monitor the effectiveness and safety of treatment.
