Glitter eyeshadow reviews

Eye shadow is not considered a necessary component of makeup, but its use can visually transform the eyes and make the look deeper and more mesmerizing. The choice of the best eye shadows should be approached carefully so that they are not hopelessly lost in the stash of homemade cosmetics.

Criteria for choosing eye shadows

  1. Texture eye shadow comes in liquid, crumbly and creamy (compact) forms; women are especially fond of the so-called baked shadows, which are highly durable.
  2. Color palette each manufacturer is different, but basic cold and warm tones are present in each brand. As a rule, you should focus on the color of your eyes and hair, as well as your natural skin tone.
  3. Presence of shimmers (shimmer particles) give the eyes radiance and shine, and their absence in matte shadows makes the makeup look natural and sophisticated.
  4. Equipmenteyeshadow usually depends on the manufacturer, but most brands include a sponge applicator or brush in the box.

Which eyeshadows should you refrain from buying?

A huge assortment of eye shadows of different colors and textures can confuse even experienced makeup lovers. For this reason, it would be more correct to identify those factors that should be avoided when purchasing:

  1. If you wear contact lenses, it is better to avoid loose eyeshadows, which are more prone to falling off.
  2. When making age-related makeup, you should avoid any shadows with a shimmering effect that can highlight even the smallest wrinkles.
  3. If you do not regularly use eye shadow in your makeup, do not purchase this product with a short shelf life. As a rule, shadows are used sparingly, but after a certain time they can cause irritation and allergic reactions.
  4. If you have no experience in applying eyeshadow, you should not immediately purchase the liquid version, because... you need to shade them very quickly (otherwise they will dry out), and without skill it’s not easy to do this.

Loose, gel and dry eyeshadows with millions of sparkles

Liquid eyeshadow from Urban Decay

Easy-to-use liquid shadows set quickly and last for a long time without creasing into the creases of the eyelids. The brush-shaped applicator is convenient for applying shadows to the entire eyelid, as well as lining the eyes and drawing arrows.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Eyeshadow

Silk and pigmented monoshadows lie very thinly on the eyelids and shine intensely with fine shimmer and larger glitter. If you choose the most neutral shade like gold or silver, you can apply it on top of other shadows or separately for everyday makeup.

Loose eyeshadow from Inglot

Eye shadow pigments are fine powder. The palette includes shimmering shades or more saturated ones with larger sparkles. You need some skill with this product, as it crumbles a lot: the easiest way is to apply it through the cap with an applicator, shaking off the excess. These shadows look especially beautiful on other base shadows. Alternatively, they can be mixed with Duraline to create a liquid eyeshadow option.

Glitter for face and body from NYX

It is best to apply glitter on a special base or lip balm. If you get used to it, you can create a gradient effect of different colors on your eyelids.

Liquid eyeshadow from Stila

Metallic shadows contain large shimmer, more like glitter. The product gives intense color from the first layer, so it is not necessary to use a base coat. These eyeshadows have a light and watery texture that makes them dry quickly.

Monoshadow from Nars

The line includes more than 30 shades, including satin, matte and metallic. We chose the deep aqua color Tropic - matte with silver glitter. With this product you can make interesting and unusual smokey eyes.

Gel gloss from Wet n Wind

Wet n Wind's sheer glitter eyeshadows have a gel texture and are easy to layer to create coverage and intensity. The gel contains aloe extract and coconut oil. Shadows can be applied to the entire body.

M.A.C Eye Gloss

Eye shadows for creating dewy eye makeup were originally intended only for professional makeup artists, but now the product can be purchased on the brand’s website. The texture is a sticky gloss with multi-dispersed rainbow shimmers and sparkles. The main color is also bright and dense. The palette includes beautiful black and cherry shades.

Long lasting shadows from Maybelline

Eyeshadows with a creamy gel texture are easy to apply and blend with your finger. For example, bronze No. 35 looks especially beautiful under electric lighting, shimmering with small and large sparkles.

Loose glitter from Kiko Milano

The universal glitter for lip, eye and even manicure makeup is available in four shades. Silver looks best in the corners of the eyes, while red can be applied to the lips for a Pat McGrath-inspired look.

Which inexpensive eyeshadows are a bargain, and which ones look tempting?

Saving is a deceptive thing, as we found out during the project “Budget cosmetics: find the best or not return home.” Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy one expensive and proven product than, like Yulia, to try 15 available concealers and not find the right one.

But I want a lot of eye shadow. All kinds. Pink, beige, bright, boring, with and without shimmer. Not every Forbes can pull it off :) That's why we tried a million budget shadows and share our impressions of which ones are in and which ones are out.

As usual, there is no unanimity in the tastes and desires of our experts:

Lena: I used to think that the more pigmented the shadows, the better. I picked up the very best in the store. I wear makeup one day, two, three. Okay, but not that. I don’t understand why. I take Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage and do the same. And it finally dawns on me that the color of these shadows is not so rich. Therefore, it is easier to manage them, and the makeup is not linear or flat. It became clear where the impression comes from that the makeup is old-fashioned, even if the technique is excellent. It is extremely contrasting, so, you know, “in the forehead”. Now I choose an intermediate level of brightness, at least for nude shades. Durability as a parameter doesn't particularly concern me. With the Smashbox base, any shadow lasts all day. (But for creamy textures this is important, yes.)

It turned out to be difficult to find unusual shades on a budget: deep bottle, blue - like in my favorite Marc Jacobs palette. The stands are either neutral, or trendy (bronze), or simple and clean, like colored pencils: purple, turquoise... And I want to ask, where are the cream eyeshadows? :) Why is there only 1 in a tube for 50 regular options? She hunted passionately - the prey was stingy.

Yulia: Actually, I’m not a fan of monoshadows - as a beauty blogger who preaches laziness, I prefer palettes where everything has already been chosen for me. (Another thing is that there are often questions about this selection.) But there are not so many palettes in the mass market in my favorite brown range, so I had to look through the “odnushka” ones.

To make my guidelines clear: from luxury and prof, the coolest eyeshadows, in my opinion, are from the Make Up Store - in my opinion, there is simply no better one in the world. (And I’ll tell you straight away that I haven’t found an analogue for them in the mass market. Which is not surprising -)) Second place is shared by Rouge Bunny Rouge and Smashbox monoshadows. And this year's love is Chanel shadows.

In the mass market, I was looking for matte shadows, in the nude-taupe-beige-brown range (though, a couple of times I was distracted by something brighter -)). In principle, if I came across beautiful shimmer ones, I would take it too (but with shimmer in the mass it’s not very good).

Yana: E-E-E-E. Wow. In general. Of the number of single shadows I tried, as it turned out, not a single one was worthy of a clear like and best - and not a single one was so bad as to fall into the “horror-horror” category. They were all kind of different, give or take. Normal. Tolerant. Except, perhaps, for the magnetic eyeshadows Kiko and Pupa, which turned out to be limited edition (they are good, but Lena and Yulia will talk about them :). Therefore I refrain from commenting. I'll have a blast when we talk about palettes.

In this part of the issue we talk about one-piece shadows. Budget palettes are a separate weighty part of the experiment. And our chests of drawers :))

Shining shadows

Pupa (RUB 745) – “I take all the one-off shoes I like from limited collections. In the autumn there were wonderful bronze and copper ones. Bright, tightly compressed. And you don’t need a Naked Heat “crocodile” for 4,700 rubles to play with the trendy red color scheme. I put on makeup five times, lost interest, put it off - a saving format that I like. Coppery Pink is not to be missed in the spring collection. Not budget, but quite thoroughbred rose gold. I wear it to the base, otherwise they might roll off,” Lena.

“I will support Lena. All the shadows that I tested from Pupa's seasonal collections were unique shades and of good quality. Well, maybe they generate a little more dust than I’m used to, but for me this is not a big minus,” Yulia.

Glam Rock, Too Cool for School (RUB 606) – “If the other shades are as good as Warning Red, this brand needs to award a premium for the most luxurious of all budget eyeshadows! The texture is soft, closer to creamy, reminiscent of Marc Jacobs. It's stewing fabulously. And twice as rich as Chanel of the similar color Desert Rouge,” Lena.

Long Lasting Wet & Dry Eyeshadow, Kiko Milano (690 RUR) – “The palette is successful, I especially advise you to pay attention to 213 Dark Slate Green. Rich emerald, but if applied with a damp brush or applicator, the depth is even greater. I dream that some makeup artist will paint me a languid smokey eye with these shadows. Otherwise, I’m careful, like a first-grader, adding only to the center of the moving eyelid” - Lena. “And I liked the shade 206 Pearly Coffee. It’s a rare case when a non-matte texture in the mass market is very successful,” Yulia.

Foil shadow Piece Matching Shadow, Holika Holika (650 RUR) - “Pill shadow for cases when you need to look festive without turning to makeup artists. The jar contains loose pigment and mica plates. You can play with them in any way. If you put a tiny amount on the brush, you get a scattering of tiny lights. You can drive it in tightly, almost to the effect of foil. It sparkles so much that it can be seen from the mezzanine. There is one minus (it is also a plus). The sparkles are tenacious. The eyelids don’t fall off, but it takes five minutes to wash your fingers,” Lena. “And again I agree! For these shadows, the Koreans have respect and respect” - Yulia.

Matte shadows

Mat Eye Shadow, Make Up Factory (680 RUR) – “The texture surprised me. Densely compressed finely dispersed powder, literally pollen. They immediately settle down like a haze. Without clear boundaries and holes. And the brown-gray shade 08 is also suitable for sculpting. I loved them more than the matte one-piece MAC ones - they are drier and smarter” - Lena.

Eyeshadow Matt, Artdeco (359 RUR) - “I recently collected four shades of these shadows in a palette - and I want more. If you need matte nude and taupe, then you probably won’t find much else of decent quality in the mass market. These shadows give off color well even in problematic light shades, blend well, adhere well to the base, and do not create dust. Probably the main disadvantage is that they are essentially the most low-budget option - I took three pieces and already 1000 rubles. And I need 10 more -)). (By the way, I didn’t like their version with shimmer)” - Yulia.

High Piment Wet & Dry Eyeshadow, Kiko (490 RUR) - “This line contains matte shadows, metallic, and shimmer, but I was interested in the matte ones. I can confidently recommend brown shades 7 and 10 - the texture is comfortable, the pigmentation is good, and they dust in moderation. The only thing missing was light shades in the range,” Yulia.

Eyeshadow, “Rive Gauche” (480 RUR) - “Shades 1-12, 1-13, 1-14 - basic light nude. And 1-10, 1-11, 1-15 and 1-19 are good rich browns. Strictly speaking, they are not all matte - some have a shine, but it’s a decent shine, and not the typical mass-market shimmer “they didn’t add any pigment, so here’s some bigger glitter.” Just normal shadows of normal quality. The only thing is that the packages are the same, and by the time you open them all to find the right shade, you’ll get tired -)))” - Yulia.

Cream eyeshadow

Cream Crush, Kiko Milano (RUB 270) – “You don’t need a base for these shadows, they have a mustache on their own. Lasts for days. When at the Kiko Milano sale they give away Cream Crush for free, for 270 rubles, every time I have a break in the pattern in my head: eye shadows that are not inferior to “luxury” are cheaper than a pack of dumplings. But no, I don’t complain, on the contrary, I rejoice),” Lena.

Aquastic, Inglot (RUB 1,200) – “The girls didn’t like the blue and green shadows, but my beige-brown No. 14 and No. 15 have nothing to blame. Really long lasting and shimmer beautifully. The leading makeup artist of one large luxury brand once told me during a shoot that she also enjoys using them,” Lena.

Infaillible Eye Paint, L’Oreal Paris (563 rubles) – “Out of ten shades of shadows, only six reached Russia, and there are no nude ones among them, which is a pity. The shadows are beautiful and manageable, the main thing is to wear them as a base so they don’t fade. I'm hooked on the brown-green color #203. It is self-sufficient: shade it, add mascara, and it’s done. I really, really want neutral shades. I don’t understand why they didn’t bring the Nudist collection to the great and mighty one,” Lena.

Dinoplatz Eye Shadow On Flatiron, Too Cool for School (RUB 824) – “A small tube without an applicator brush, fits in a jeans pocket. Can be applied without looking in the mirror. They fade without stains. Small flaws are not visible because the shades are not bright. By the way, there are only three of them - the question is why? It’s worth getting at least one, golden brown Bronze,” Lena.

Piece Matching Shadow 3-in-1, Holika Holika - “The brightest representative of my collection is in the eye-catching orange shade Orange Pop. The shadows have an unusual texture - they are neither 100% creamy nor 100% powdery, but something in between. The color payoff is right both in the box and on the eyelid, the longevity is excellent. I seriously think I need these red ones!” - Julia .

Outsiders

Luminous Base & Glitter Eyes and Face, Pupa (499 RUR) – “Most shadows can be trained, so the rating with the prefix “anti” is almost empty this time. But I’m offended by these specifically. That's why. The most famous girl in school wore lilac glitter on her eyelids. Then, at thirteen years old, I thought it was very cool (don’t ask, I know:) But the glitter fell off. I accepted the failure, although the resentment remained. And here's a second chance: a girl twice her age is holding Pupa shadows with free-flowing glitter in her hands. Well, I think it's a rematch! And the glitter shimmers so-so, and rolls off after an hour. Thank you - please - goodbye,” - Lena.

Eyeshadow Glamor and Pearl, Artdeco (359 RUR) - “I suspect that it all depends on the shade, as usual. But I didn’t like the brand’s shimmer eyeshadows - there’s not enough color, the shimmer is obvious, and they’re noticeably dusty,” Yulia.
