Graft-Versus-Host Disease (Gvhd)

Graft Versus Host Disease (Gvhd)

Graft-versus-host disease (Gvhd) is a condition that occurs after a bone marrow transplant and, in some cases, after a blood transfusion or other organ or tissue transplantation. In this case, the lymphocytes of the transplanted graft begin to attack the tissues of the recipient to whom the graft was transplanted.

The skin, intestines, and liver usually suffer the most damage from Gvhd. To reduce the intensity of immune rejection of the transplant, corticosteroids and cyclosporine A are used - these drugs suppress the immune responses of the recipient's body.
