The 3rd sphenoid bone is one of the paired bones of the base of the skull, located in its middle part behind the frontal sinus and the 2nd large foramen. Wedge-shaped bones are 2 and 3 paired, they are located between the dentition in the oral cavity. According to international nomenclature, they are numbers 3 and 4, and in the anatomical atlas they are designated numbers 6 and 7.
Every third sphenoid bone is located near the ethmoid bone on both sides. They are not in place in cases of detection of anomalies in the upper jaw. Also, the absence of the upper jaw and both sixth sphenoid bones equally affects the functioning of the body. But in some cases they can be only part of the jaw lobe and individual teeth, for example, the premolars of the upper jaw on the right.
