The midbrain is an important center of the nervous system, located between the forebrain and hindbrain. It plays an important role in regulating heart rate, breathing, blood pressure and other vital functions.

The midbrain consists of two main parts - the pons and the brainstem. The pons connects the midbrain to the cerebellum and receives information from all the senses. It also controls many of our body's motor functions, such as chewing movements and eye blinking.
