Brain swelling

Swelling or edema of the brain is a rare condition associated with excess fluid accumulation inside the brain, usually caused by head trauma, increased intracranial pressure, or pathologies leading to poor circulation. Although this disease is usually associated with severe trauma, it is not uncommon for it to be caused simply by swelling of the brain (not causing deformation of the brain matter): in this case, the swelling is clearly visible on MRI and CT images, but the doctor may not notice the deformation of the brain matter.
