Bromhexine-Ferein: a mucolytic drug for the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases
Bromhexine-Ferein is a mucolytic drug used for the treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with impaired sputum discharge. It is produced in Russia by the Bryntsalov-A company and contains bromhexine as an active ingredient. The dosage form of the drug is a syrup containing 4 mg of bromhexine per 5 ml.
Bromhexine is synonymous with such drugs as Bisolvon, Bisolvon, Bromhexine-Acri, Bromhexine-Ratiopharm, Bromhexine-UB and others. It helps to liquefy sputum and improve its discharge, which makes the patient's breathing easier and speeds up recovery.
The drug has several contraindications, including hypersensitivity to bromhexine, pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and breastfeeding (treatment must be suspended). Side effects such as gastrointestinal disorders, allergic reactions and angioedema may also occur.
The drug's interaction with other medications may also affect its effectiveness. For example, codeine-containing drugs can make it difficult to clear liquefied sputum, and bromhexine can promote the penetration of antibiotics (erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytetracycline) into the lung tissue.
An overdose of bromhexine is extremely rare, and there is no data on it. However, when taking large doses of the drug, side effects may occur.
It should be remembered that for peptic ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, the administration of bromhexine requires caution.
Bromhexine-Ferein is an effective mucolytic drug for the treatment of diseases of the bronchi and lungs with impaired sputum discharge. However, before you start using it, you must consult your doctor and read the instructions for use.
