Bronchocin: description, use, side effects and contraindications
Bronchocin is a combination drug that is used to treat dry cough in various respiratory diseases. It contains glaucine, ephedrine and basil oil, and is produced by Balkanpharma-Troyan AD in Bulgaria.
The drug has an antitussive effect and is recommended for use in acute inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, acute and chronic bronchitis, tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis and whooping cough.
However, before you start using the drug, you need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications. Bronchocin is not recommended for people suffering from arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, severe organic heart disease, heart failure, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, insomnia, glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia with clinical manifestations, as well as pregnant women in the first trimester and nursing mothers.
Possible side effects, such as tachycardia, extrasystole, increased blood pressure, tremor, agitation, insomnia, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, constipation, increased libido, dysmenorrhea, difficulty urinating and urinary retention in patients with prostatic hyperplasia. In rare cases, dermatological reactions and tachyphylaxis may develop.
With simultaneous use of ephedrine with cardiac glycosides, quinidine, tricyclic antidepressants, the risk of developing arrhythmias increases. With simultaneous use of ephedrine with reserpine and MAO inhibitors, a sharp increase in blood pressure is possible. With simultaneous use of ephedrine with non-selective beta blockers, the bronchodilator effect may be reduced.
In case of overdose, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, agitation, poor circulation, tremors of the limbs, dizziness, sweating and difficulty urinating may occur. In this case, it is necessary to rinse the stomach and carry out symptomatic therapy.
Due to the possible occurrence of dizziness and visual disturbances, caution should be exercised when driving vehicles or performing other activities that require increased concentration.
