Broncho-Munal: description, indications for use and side effects

Broncho-Munal is an immunomodulatory drug produced by Lek DD in Slovenia. It contains a lyophilized lysate of bacteria and is used for the prevention of recurrent diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, such as chronic bronchitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis and otitis media. It may also be used in combination with other drugs as immunomodulatory therapy for infectious diseases.

Broncho-Munal is available in two dosage forms: capsules for children with a dosage of 3.5 mg and capsules with a dosage of 7 mg. The composition of each capsule contains lyophilized bacterial lysate of the appropriate dosage.

The drug has a number of contraindications. It should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy and children under 6 months of age. It is also worth noting that the use of Broncho-Munal is not recommended for acute intestinal diseases.

When using Broncho-Munal, some side effects are possible. From the gastrointestinal tract, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may occur (extremely rare). In rare cases, a hypersensitivity reaction may develop, which may require discontinuation of the drug. An increase in body temperature may also occur.

There is no data on the interaction of Broncho-Munal with other drugs or on possible overdose. However, a 4-week interval is recommended between taking the drug and oral vaccines.
