Buchman Shove is one of the most famous American surgeons of the twentieth century. His professional activity was devoted to the treatment of breast cancer and breast reconstruction after tumor removal. He became the founder of modern methods of reconstructive breast surgery and the introduction of reconstructive operations into medical practice.
Buchman Shov was born in 1903 in New York into a Jewish family. Since childhood, he had an interest in medicine and surgery, especially in the treatment of cancer and the deterioration of the beauty of the human body. In 1921, Buchman entered the University of California, Los Angeles and began studying medicine and surgery. After graduating in 1931, he worked in hospitals as an assistant surgeon.
Since 1941, Buchman has focused on treating breast cancer. That same year, he presented his first successful attempt at reconstructing the breasts of a woman who had been the victim of an atomic bomb during the Hiroshima War. Since then, Buchman has worked to perfect his breast reconstruction technique. He developed the concept of composite reconstruction, where he performed breast reconstruction using synthetic materials and the woman's own tissue. This allowed him to create perfectly symmetrical breasts for each patient, without the need for donor tissue.
