Chistets Bolotny.

Chistets marsh

A perennial herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family, 30-100 cm high. The rhizome is creeping, with tuberous thickenings at the ends. The stem is erect, covered with stiff hairs facing downwards.

The leaves are short-petioled or sessile, oblong, sharp, finely toothed. Blooms from mid-summer to autumn. The flowers are lilac-purple. The fruit is a nut.

Marsh chistets is distributed throughout most of the territory of the USSR, with the exception of the Far East. It grows along the banks of rivers, lakes, ponds, in wet meadows, fields and swamps.

The aerial part of the plant serves as the medicinal raw material. The grass is harvested during flowering in dry, sunny weather. Dry under a canopy, in the shade or in a dryer at a temperature of 40-45°C. Store in a well-closed wooden or glass container for 1 year.

The herb contains flavonoids, coumarins, tannins, a small amount of alkaloids, vitamin C, carotenoids, pectin substances, sugars, organic acids (citric, malic, succinic, oxalic, etc.), phenolcarboxylic acids, iron salts, etc.

Chistets preparations have a sedative, hemostatic, wound-healing and hypotensive effect. The calming and hypotensive effect is more pronounced than that of motherwort, so it is recommended to use it for increased excitability of the nervous system, in the initial stage of hypertension and with a tendency to seizures.

Externally, the leaves are used to stop bleeding from wounds, bruises, boils and ulcers that do not heal for a long time. Orally prescribed for hemoptysis and uterine bleeding.

To prepare the infusion, pour 1 teaspoon of herbs into 1 glass of hot water, boil in a water bath for 15 minutes, cool for 45 minutes, filter through two or three layers of gauze and bring the volume to the original volume with boiled water. Take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day before meals. Steamed dry grass or fresh leaves can be applied to wounds and ulcers. The dressing is changed once a day.
