In the medical literature, a wart is called Wart or Verruca, and this is the name given to a rounded raised area on the skin that looks like a nodule or looks like a papilla. It is a predominantly benign skin neoplasm caused by a virus related to human papillomatosis. You can catch such a disease by contact with a person already suffering from such a disease or by using his things.
Such neoplasms on the skin can have different sizes, ranging from 1-2 mm to 15 mm. The size of the wart depends on the type and location where it formed. Sometimes a certain number of such skin nodules can merge into tumors that take on a conical or hemispherical shape, while having a wide base.
When enough time passes, the color of the wart, which at first was hardly distinguishable from the main skin color, can change to brown and sometimes even black. Such changes occur due to the fact that the rough surface of the wart easily catches any contamination.
It is clear that the appearance of such unpleasant skin problems in people raises only one question: “How to cure a wart?” Today, there are several ways to help remove warts, but it is still recommended to see a specialist, who is a dermatologist, since such formations on the skin are very similar to other diseases. Only after an examination, the dermatologist decides to perform procedures or take medications.
Causes of warts
The reasons that can also lead to the occurrence of such a skin disease are factors, including:
- decreased immunity;
- mental trauma;
- vegetoneurosis (diseases associated with disruption of the higher centers of the nervous system responsible for vegetation);
- low blood supply to small capillaries (acrocyanosis);
- Excessive sweating on the hands or soles.

Types of warts
All known wart formations are divided into the following types:
- Regular.
- Flat shape.
- Condylomas are small in size, comparable in color to the skin, but form on the mucous membrane (in the mouth, on the genitals or around the anus).
- Age-related warts (age-related keratomas).
The first three types of warts are usually formed under the influence of a common virus. The incubation period of the formations is extended from two to five months. And only the latter type appears in older people and is not associated with viral etiology. Read in detail the article about the types of warts on the skin. So, what to do if warts appear - we’ll talk about this later.
Is it possible to cure or remove a wart 100%
Despite the available treatment methods, none of them can cope with the cause of such formations on the skin - HPV, which has the decoding of the human papilloma virus. There is also a possibility of relapse after surgery to remove warts. Moreover, the data indicate that the return of the disease is equally possible after using any method and its percentage reaches 30 units. And none of the methods gives a 100% guarantee that the treatment will be successful. Efficiency is currently 60-95% of all cases. However, don’t worry if you have warts, there are a lot of methods for treating them, cauterizing them or removing them! Every adult decides for himself what to do, but it is necessary to seek advice from a dermatologist!
It is noted that when removing warts using any method, there are problems with the appearance of scars on the skin. Doctors have noticed the following pattern: the higher the effectiveness of the method of removing a wart, the greater the likelihood of the formation of a deep mark from a wound that then heals.
Important!!! Warts often manifest themselves completely unexpectedly: they can disappear on their own without any outside intervention, and sometimes they do not respond to any, even the most effective, treatment method. If we rely on the data provided by medical institutions, then 20% of warts are susceptible to self-healing within two months, almost 30% of wart formations disappear in three months, and only 50% of them can disappear without intervention in two years. Typically, a consistent resolution of this disease is observed in childhood patients. If an adult’s immunity is in a reduced zone, and the course of warts is more persistent, then cases of self-relief from such problems are much less common.But, despite the fact that warts can disappear on their own, and recurrence of the disease is also possible, this does not mean that such a problem should not be dealt with, although doctors are often inclined to observe rather than treat such skin formations. In order to make a final decision, it is necessary to understand the patient’s discomfort, both psychologically and physically.
Experts advise starting treatment for warts using the safest and not too expensive methods, although they are not particularly effective. If no positive dynamics are observed, then it is recommended to proceed with more aggressive treatment and, accordingly, with a higher pricing policy. Many people often believe that it is necessary to remove warts immediately using backup methods (such as laser treatment), but this is unreasonable, since this creates a high possibility of scar formation, and no one gives a guarantee that a relapse will not occur.
Oral drugs for the treatment of papillomatosis virus
You can diagnose the appearance of warts yourself (usually they can be palpated) if they are clearly visible on the skin, but only a dermatologist can make an accurate diagnosis. Official medicine suggests that the patient first take medications that will primarily boost immunity, have a calming effect on the nervous system, and naturally take a course of vitamins.
To begin with, you can take vitamins that increase the body's resistance to the IF virus, such as:
- vitamin A, which is drunk for a minimum of 2-3 months, and a maximum of six. For example, it could be retinol from 100 to 300 rubles (or from 5 to 50 UAH). No more than 1 mg is consumed per day;
- vitamin E or tocopherol, which prevents aging and protects cells from decay, strengthens the nail plates, skin and hair, and also increases stimulation of the immune system. It is important to remember that the daily dose should not exceed 15 mg. The price varies from 2 to 47 rubles (from 11 to 34 UAH);
- vitamin C or the well-known ascorbic acid, which helps strengthen the immune system and fight viruses. Consumption per day on average is only 75 mg. The price of the drug varies from 150 to 340 rubles. (8 to 28 UAH).
Antiviral medications include those that will also suppress the virus and help strengthen the body and stimulate the immune system:
- Groprinosin is both an immune stimulant and eliminates HPV (from 586 rubles or from 92 UAH)
- Anaferon is used in complex therapy for bacterial and viral infections (from 64 UAH and in Russia from 201 RUB)
- immunal, made on the basis of echinacea and can be used for prevention (price starts from 186 rubles or from 103 UAH)
There are both medical (hardware and chemical (pharmaceutical) means) and folk (more gentle) methods of removing warts.
How to get rid of warts at home
Let's start with less expensive - folk methods of removing (cauterizing) warts, which have been used by healers for a long time:
- Every day you can lubricate the warty formation with tincture of wormwood, which is prepared by pouring 3 tablespoons of dried wormwood with 200 grams of boiling water. Then the tincture must be boiled for two minutes and left for up to half an hour, covering the container with a lid;
- Rub the warts with a cut garlic clove 2-3 times for 14-30 days (often longer). This treatment should be continued until the formations disappear;
- for 20-25 days, lubricate the wart every day with juice from the stems of celandine or dandelion (read about methods of external use of celandine for papillomas);
- If a wart is found, then a piece of banana peel is tied to its surface with the whitish (inner) side. If the surface of the wart becomes black, this indicates the death of its roots. It is advisable to try not to rip it off, so as not to provoke a relapse;
- if warts are found on the genital mucosa, it is recommended to use tea tree oil, which is also an excellent antiviral drug and is used to remove genital warts. But only if there is no irritation and open skin. The essential oil should be diluted with boiled water in a 1:1 ratio and using a cotton swab, carefully apply the solution to the wart. Excess moisture should be removed and a bandage should be left on the wart formation overnight. Repeat such applications until the skin is cleansed;
There are many recipes, everyone chooses the one that is closer to him.
How to remove a wart: traditional treatment methods
Depending on the type and location of the wart, a dermatologist may recommend the following methods for getting rid of it:
- Cryodestruction. The wart is frozen using liquid nitrogen. The operation is quite quick and does not take more than 10-30 seconds. After this, such a formation turns white and dries out. The cost of the procedure in Russia starts from 500 rubles, and in Ukraine varies from 40 to 300 UAH;
- Electrocoagulation. High-frequency current is used to remove the wart formation. The metal “loop” seems to cut off the wart and prevent the release of blood, while the tissues are disinfected. If you carry out procedures in Russia, then the estimated price starts from 500 rubles, in Ukraine – from 135 UAH;
- Laser coagulation. The wart is removed using a laser beam, cutting away layer by layer until the skin is clear. Usually local anesthesia is used and a notch is left at the site of the wart, which heals after 14-20 days. Pricing policy in Russia is from 140 rubles. for one papilloma and from 500 rubles. When removing one wart, the cost in Ukraine starts from 400 UAH.
- Surgical excision of warts. This method is recommended for warts that have merged into a single whole during growth or for fairly tall formations. Then the surgeon uses a scalpel to remove such a formation and send it for analysis. The wound will be closed with a cosmetic suture, leaving a whitish scar after the operation. In Russia, such an operation can cost from 3,000 rubles, in Ukraine, depending on education, it can start from 500 UAH;
- Removal using radio waves. A special device sends a tuned wave signal to the wart, through which tissue damaged by the virus is destroyed. With such an operation, the risk of complications is very small; the wart wound heals quickly, leaving virtually no scars. This method is recognized as the most gentle. The price of the procedure in Russia starts from 200 rubles, in Ukraine you will have to pay starting from 385 UAH.
- Application of chemistry. This method is not prescribed too often, as there is a risk of damage to nearby unaffected tissues, since the wart will be lubricated with a caustic compound (for example, acid) or alkali, and this is often accompanied by painful sensations. Typically, such treatment is one-time or carried out in a course. The following are preparations for carrying out such manipulations.
